How many Milk Feeds per day for 8 months old!!??
« on: May 10, 2011, 07:16:11 am »
???i am really confused and i need advice. my dd is 8 months and 2 weeks, and she is on 4 milk feeds a day (EBF), and in the process of weaning her DF by bringing it up 15 minutes every 3 days.

i have been reading alot online about dropping 1 day feed if your lo is around 8 months old (preferrably the midday feed) which in my dd's case is around 11 am. but i am confused because i am used to following the BW technique in extending the A time between feeds to reduce daytime feeds. my dd is BF around 6 am, then 11 am, 4 pm, and 6 pm at the moment, and i am trying to extend the time between feeds gradually.

am i missing out on something? should i drop a midday feed to have only 3 day meals, and replace the midday meal with a snack?

your thoughts will be much appreciated.

Hi :)
The WHO recommends a minimum of 4 breastfeeds a day until 10 months, with no rush to reduce feeds from then, so I would say weaning the DF is enough for now. Milk should be the main part of your baby's diet until a year old. HTH

I also have an 8 mo.  She is formula fed, but we are also on 4 feeds.  She usually gulps down all 4 of these 7 oz bottles, so I can't imagine going down to 3 feeds anytime soon.  Like Vicku, I plan on sticking with 4 until about 10 months and then dropping a feed (likely the DF) and going from there.

Hi,

My 8mo has four bfs a day (at approx 6.15am, 11am, 3.30pm and 6.30pm).  We dropped the df just before she turned 7 months.
I am anticipating that the next feed she will drop will be the morning one (11am), followed by the afternoon one.

Does anyone know when babies usually go from 3 feeds to 2? (I will be returning to work just before she turns 1, and need to wean all feeds except early morning one before then, so would be interested to know if she would most likely be on three or two feeds when she turns 1).

Typically babies are on 3 feeds until the age of 1.

Proud to have breastfed for a combined total of 35 months

This must be a conflicted topic, I was just reading in parents magazine last night that by 10 months babies are on 2 bottles a day and 3 solids meals and "by" the age of 1 they should only be getting fluids in sippy cups as they need their solids more than milk. Also that at age 1 too much milk is actually bad for them. I am going to have to do alot more research on this topic before I decide what to do with DGS.
