Is 30-45 minutes too short for 5-6 week old?
« on: May 11, 2011, 14:39:07 pm »
I have a 5 1/2 week old, and she starts fussing at around 35-45 minutes of A at the most including her feeds.  If I put her swaddled and shush pat her to bed, she's fine, and sleeps for 2 1/2 hour naps, sometimes a little longer if I forget to wake her.  Is this A time long enough? She's very fussy if it goes longer and is extremely hard to get to sleep if I don't swaddle her immediately at the first little whimper.  This is working out fine for now, just when I have to run errands, and I'm worried they won't watch her cues as closely at daycare when she goes in 2 weeks.  Any advice?

Welcome to BW!  Your A time sounds great!  If you would like to outline your whole day in

format, we'd be happy to take a peek at it.

I'm also moving this to the EASY board  :-*

My DS (now 15 weeks) was the same at 5-6 weeks, he couldn't be up very long, and if you missed that 1st yawn it would sometimes take up to an hour for him to finally drift off!

Thats awesome she's taking such great naps :) Sleep is so important at this age! Sounds like you are doing great :)

I'm not sure what to do about day care... how many kids will be there? Will she be the youngest?

So far, she'll be the youngest, they have about 12 kids in the same room, 3 adults. Thanks for your help.

I've been pumping and feeding so that it goes much quicker as far as feeding only takes about 5-10 min, then burp, then change diaper, make faces for a minute than swaddle and put down. She usually doesn't want to stay awake longer than about 30 minutes total, takes about 10-15 for her to really settle down and sleep. Otherwise, she just gets cranky and cries, so I'd rather her sleep.

I'm just going to say 'If it's not broken, don't fix it' ;)  You seem to have an awesome EASY going on and some awesome night sleep.  Roll with it, looks great!  ;D

My 6 week old typically has several times a day where he only wants to do 30min. A time. In the evening it stretches out more, but I feel like as long as I'm following his cues, its okay.  My LO is up at 2am and 5 am so consider yourself lucky!

If it works, go with it! You've got a growth spurt coming any time now, so enjoy it! :) And in a year you'll be amazed that you ever wondered. LOL
