WTS how long?
« on: October 22, 2011, 01:00:09 am »
After almost a year now my LO has been getting up at 5am-ish.  I tried everything, PUPD AP(this worked but now it's become a habit and there is another LO on the way so I have to stop me as a prop.  I am also not helping him learn to get through the dream state.)

I was scared to try WTS because I thought he may get up at 4am and not go back on his own.  I started WTS and it has worked like a charm!!! He was waking at 6:15-ish.   Now I am afraid to stop!!!  In the last week I forgot one night and two other nights he did some crying without needing me to come in (he went back right away on his own).  These nights that I didn't do WTS he was up at 5:30am.

The book says 3-4 days but I am afraid!!

I always did it for a week, but that is because my little monkey was resilient to change ::)

How long have you been doing it for? I thought a week. Are you adjusting for the extra sleep in the routine?

I have been doing it for a week.   Not sure what you mean about adjusting for the extra sleep?

Wake to sleep works for habitual wakings. But if because of ot or ut it wont solve that problem. So if he normally wakes at 5am but with wake to sleep slept until 6.15, did you still nap at the same time and pd at bt the same time? Just thinking if he gets more sleep in the morning he may need some tweaking of his routine to balance it. Does Thu make sense?

Yes, that does make sense.  I keep the nap and BT at the same times.  However lately I haven't been AP him to sleep at BT.  I just put him in the crib and he does his thing until he falls asleep.  Usually a few PD and some back rubbing.  This has been taking a while lately.  Sometimes 30-40 min.  I start early in hopes to have him asleep by 8pm.  Naps are at 12pm and he will sleep from 60-75 min tops!

Wow yes, KM is totally right. Is your LO only on 1 nap too, is this your EASY?
WU 5
Nap 12-1/1.15
BT 8
?

If so then I think KM has found the problem, your LO is OT

Now I am not on my phone I can see from yor ticket lo is 20mo? That is really not a lot of sleep at all. I found when my Lo was waking early W2S worked for a few days but didn't solve the root of the problem (OT). IF your LO is up at 5.30am and only sleeping an hourish I would have him in bed by 6pm for sure. I often find with my LO if I miss his sleep window which is about 12-13hrs after wu he will get a second wind and take ages to get to sleep so a very EBT may help him catch up on sleep.
How was today?
What do you think?

MMM!  I totally think he is OT. He has such a busy mind and it's hard to calm him.  3 days a week he is at Grannies and I can't do much about the length of the naps.  I have tried WTS during this time and I can sometimes get it to 1:45 but no more!!  With all that goes on at night the earliest I could do is maybe 6:30.  I can try.  We will see how he does to day! He has had this cough for the last 2 days which wakes him too.  Yelch!
W-5:30 w/AP until 6:30 (he will sleep)
N-12 (at home) 1 (at school) for 1-1:30 TOPS!
BT 7:15 w/rolling and squirming until 7:45/8pm

I would do the 6.30 bt. Can he have dinner at grannie's? You could carry on with the w2s as if he wakes later this may help push bt back. I would aim to keep the nap as early as you can.

So Grannie is away this month so he is sleeping at school.  The last 2 days he has done almost 2 hours at nap time!!!  He goes down at 12:30/1pm on his own.  Why do they do better at school??

BT tonight was 7 and he actually got to sleep at 7:45.

I pick him up at Grannies usually around 3pm.
