Activity times 3 month old - silly question
« on: February 29, 2012, 15:31:49 pm »
Hi there,

Ok so silly question... I know that typical activity time for a 3 month old is about 1.5 hours, allowing up to 20m to actually get to sleep. I also know every baby is different :)

For the past few days I've had my lo up for around 2h per activity time. Nights have been GREAT compared to what they used to be (he goes down at 6:30, is up between 10:30-11 to feed, again between 3-3:30, then up around 7 (except today of course, 6:20).

My question is, is that a reasonable amount of time to be awake if he only takes on average 1-3 minutes to fall asleep when I put him in his crib? If i try earlier he just ends up screaming and doesn't nap well. I don't want to start an overtired circle again and I DON'T want to disrupt his night sleep, but I'm afraid I'im keeping him up too long. I'm also afriad to put him to bed too early and end up with a short nap like this am.

Thoughts?

Oh my heavens, yes! :D  When DS was a baby, that's one of the sure-fire ways I knew his A times were right for him: he'd go to sleep so fast.

Some babies will fuss if you try to put them down too early, like they're saying, "Hey Mom!  What gives?  I'm not sleepy yet."  If your LO is napping well with a longer A time and is subsequently doing better at night, I'd say that you've got a good thing goin'. ;)

Phew, thanks so much!

Today is a bit wonky but I'll be back on track tomorrow. B is 3 months today so it seemed like it was too long for someone so young. He's also been on a 4 hour routine for a while now.

Can't wait for the growth spurt to mix everything up again :)
