Neocate poop
« on: January 10, 2013, 10:16:58 am »
I think this is normal but DS has been on neonate for three days he has very smelly wins and his poops are very dark khaki green and yesterday green with yellow 'normal' poop colour streaks in, is that what u should expect? Where are the yellow bits coming from he isn't in any solids?

This is exactly what we had on neocate when T made the switch.
If there was mucus in poops you may still see some for a week or so.
T has terrible smelly toots as well, the poop smells a little sulfer like. I think it's ok ;) :-*

"straight from the swamp" is the way I describe it.

Hello :)

This is from the Neocate website...

My baby’s bowel movements have changed since beginning Neocate. Is this normal?

Yes this is perfectly normal! Stools can change in consistency and color when a child is introduced to an elemental formula such as Neocate. The reason for this is that Neocate is a very simple form of nutrition. It tends to get absorbed by the body high up in the gut meaning that very little of its nutrients pass into the large intestine. The large intestine is home to millions of bacteria that perform a number of functions including the breakdown of bile (a green substance) which your body naturally produces. These bacteria get less nutrition while your child is on Neocate and their numbers fall, so reducing the breakdown of bile. This means that more bile is present in your child’s stool giving them a green color. This process is a natural effect of taking Neocate and does not affect your baby.
