Hi everyone,

DS is now 4 weeks but still waking every 2 to even 1.5 hrs at night. He gives all the cues of being hungry but he will only take one breast and usually doesn't drain it before falling asleep or pulling off with sleepy cues. We sometimes do a diaper change or something to get him back up and he will maybe latch back on for a few sucks before pushing and arching off the breast.  Should I be worried he is turning into a night time snacker or maybe this is a growth spurt?

Thanks!

At 4wo it is completely normal to feed every 1.5-2hrs around the clock. Their tummies are so small they can only hold a tiny amount of breast milk and that is quickly digested in less than 2hrs. The first 6wks especially are really important for him to establish your supply so I'd let him feed as much a he wants. After that the feeds should start to naturally space out a little.

If it is an issue with him being sleepy you can try some other techniques to get him to wake up. Tips for Sleepy Newborns
