I've read all of the posts and feel the same way. Today my lo received her immunization shots and she got fussy and cried quite a bit tonight. I had the option of giving her baby Tylenol but hate giving meds when I can give something better! I've never fed her in bed laying down but before dinner I decided to bring her into my bed cuddled beside me as she was crying so hard. I offered her my breast and she immediately latched on and nuzzled and sucked for 20 minutes until she fell into a deep sleep. The tears stopped quickly and I let her sleep cuddled up to me for an hour before I put her into her crib. No meds required!

Lovely posts, I feel so fortunate to be breastfeeding as my mum was not able to - no milk, so thought I might encounter problems.
She latched immediatly and at first was a bit sensitive but after a few days it was fine.
I love breastfeeding because

- its the best start I can give my dd
- its free
- no sterilising
- i love how she now can reach up to my face to touch my lips for a quick kiss inbetween
- its creating big strong healthy bones and happy baby and happy mum
- only I can do it

I could say alot more, but all you ladies have wrapped it up pretty well.

When ds was just a tiny thing and got sleepy during his feeds, I would start to take him off and then he would do a few really quick sucks almost as if to say "look look I'm eating, don't take me off" it was so cute because I could tell he was loving just being there.

I too loved the time spent breastfeeding my daughter - it was a special time for just the two of us to bond, relax  and just be together - i couldn't carry on after 4 months though because my milk supply was in short supply ( my baby was about 6kg at that stage and needed more nourishment than i could give her).

For weeks afterwards i was seriously depressed as i missed the closeness we had shared - now, anyone could feed her and not just her mommy. Anyway, it took a while, but i got over the disappointment and the transition for breast to bottle has done her no harm whatsoever - she's a healthy (and growing!) 9.8kg at 7 months so she's still thriving.

I threw in the towel at Weight Watchers in January and have done nothing but stuff my face ever since - last week I re-joined and I've lost 3lb  :o  I'm certain I have breastfeeding to thank for that so what other reason do I need to keep going?  ;D

i am so happy to be breastfeeding! this is my third child, he is 4 months now! (hard to believe it is going so fast) my other children are 9 and 7.

i breastfed my first son untill he was 14 months.
i breastfed my daughter untill she was 11 months (had to go back to work, and she wasn't interested anymore)
and i plan to breastfeed this little guy  untill at least 1 year or so.

i am currently a "feeding friend" in my town. (a program provided by the public health services) i help out other mom's who are having a little trouble ( latching on, milk supply, and pumping) and of course answering any questions they have.

besides being the absoulute best thing in the world for a baby these are the reasons i love breastfeeding

- i love the special bond it has with your child. just knowing that no one else can feed him the way you do is special in itself
- the look in his eyes when he looks up at you and knows that you are there and he is safe and sound in mommy's arms, just melts my heart.
- when he looks up and has the biggest smile and then starts to feed again, and then look up and smile, and feed again. like it is his own special game.
- knowing that i can go anyplace in the whole wide world with him and not have to worry about bottles, warmers and such.
- knowing that his crib is right next to our bed, so that when he wakes to feed, i can feed him and he falls right back to sleep before he is wide awake.
- breastfeeding is great!

Well, now that I am NOT breastfeeding anymore...I REALLY miss it.  I think it might be b/c it was my son's decision and not mine, but I am fortunate to have been able to go this long.  My son would NOT take the bottle not matter what I did for 8.5+ months, then one day while BF...he pushed me away and still acted VERY hungry...I offered the bottle kinda as a haha, here you go, but I don't think youre going to like it....and to my dismay he sucked down 7 ounces.....and puished me away the next feedings and drank the bottle.....Now I can only BF a bit right before bed...better than nothing!!!

oh well...life goes on!!

Good Luck to all of you who are continuing to do it!!!

Awesome thread.......

I love love love breastfeeding.  It is such a special bonding moment with my son.  Its so convenient and no waiting for a bottle to heat up.

I also love that only I can do it (unless I pump).  It has really helped to get him away from greedy relatives. ;)

Me too! Me too!

I love that little coughing noise she makes when she is hungry.

I love that she has to feel my skin when she nurses (makes it hard to nurse in publis sometimes though).

I love that sometimes I am the only one that she wants to calm her.

Me too!!  Me too!!  Nursing is so amazing...I can't say that I thought it would be so wonderful the first 2 weeks both nipples were purple and completely scabbed over.  I had to pop a clogged nipple duct with a needle...

But I'm so glad I stuck with it.  I too have become so impassioned about breastfeeding.  And although I try to say I don't judge moms who CHOSE not to do it (of course I have the deepest sympathy for those who can't) it's not true and I don't get it at all.  There's nothing better on earth at this point.  I have a poem you'll all enjoy:

Dr. Seuss for Nursing Moms

Would you nurse her in the park?
Would you nurse him in the dark?
Would you nurse him with a Boppy?
And when your boobs are feeling floppy?

I would nurse him in the park,
I would nurse her in the dark.
I'd nurse with or without a Boppy.
Floppy boobs will never stop me.

Can you nurse with your seat belt on?
Can you nurse from dusk till dawn?
Though she may pinch me, bite me, pull,
I will nurse her `till she's full!

Can you nurse and make some soup?
Can you nurse and feed the group?
It makes her healthy strong and smart,
Mommy's milk is the best start!

Would you nurse him at the game?
Would you nurse her in the rain?
In front of those who dare complain?
I would nurse him at the game.
I would nurse her in the rain.

As for those who protest lactation,
I have the perfect explanation.
Mommy's milk is tailor made
It's the perfect food, you need no aid.

Some may scoff and some may wriggle,
Avert their eyes or even giggle.
To those who can be cruel and rude,
Remind them breast's the perfect food!

I would never scoff or giggle,
Roll my eyes or even wiggle!
I would not be so crass or crude,
I KNOW that this milk's the perfect food!

We make the amount we need
The perfect temp for every feed.
There's no compare to milk from breast-
The perfect food, above the rest.

Those sweet nursing smiles are oh so sweet,
Mommy's milk is such a treat.
Human milk just can't be beat.

I will nurse, in any case,
On the street or in your face.
I will not let my baby cry,
I'll meet her needs, I'll always try.
It's not about what's good for you,
It's best for babies, through and through.

I will nurse her in my home,
I will nurse her when I roam.
Leave me be lads and ma'am.
I will nurse her, Mom I am

I also love breastfeeding.  Recently went on holiday with some friends and thier lo who is 4 weeks older and they are bottle feeding.  I always knew bottle feeding was more hassle but had never really appreciated how much!!  I will keep feeding for as long as I can.  We also have greedy relatives and although I'm pumping so my husband can give a bottle we're not sharing with anyone else! ;)  Why does no one warn you that your not just having a baby but your in-laws are having a grandchild!! :o

no kidding, my LO won't take a bottle, I'm secretly elated about this until I need/want to be gone for more than 3 hours, and can't.   shhh. don't tell anyone.

But she will take a binky, go figure, I can't stand the way anyone else tries to offer it to her.  It looks like they are trying to shove it down her throat...It makes me crazy!!  I mean really to me, no one holds her right, no one talks to her right, no one puts her diaper on right, no one plays with her right, no one can do any of it the way I can/do...I guess that is why mommies are so special.
