8wo refusing bottle-help!
« on: December 06, 2013, 21:42:03 pm »
We started DD2 on an oz of EBM every day/every second
day 6wks ago.We gave it in a MAM bottle-using MAM
soothers-before a BF.
But!
for some reason, she has refused it the past few days.
Im starting to panic!
I've read through the FAQ on this, but i need a little
guidance on what to do tbh. ???
She will sometimes allow the bottle in her mouth, but
just wont suck.other times, she just screams if we put
it in.

So...some questions! TIA!X

Should i try at every feed?
Or!
Should i stop&hope she forgets that she doesnt like bottles?&try
again in a few days?
Should i try a new bottle?

I tried three types before E settled for Dr Brown's. Plus we went straight to the stage 2 nipple as she was used to my fast flow. She would not take it from me though until the 5th time and then it was fine. Oh and we do use MAM soothers...not sure what the MAM bottles look like though!

If she used to take it okay then I would suspect the nipple over anything else. And if you have one already to try then you will know one way or the other! Hope it is as simple as that!

Do you have anyone else to give it? I would back off a bit if it is stressing her (and you) out!

Would you try in her sleep?
Oscar's first bottles were DFs so he didn't really realise IYKWIM.
Emma never took them :-(
I didn't insist and didn't even use them from around 6-7 weeks and then she totally refused when I tried to reintroduce.

Try in her sleep - at end of a nap or for df maybe?

sorry I never got back till now!

Oscar did sleepy feeds ONLY till around 4 mths, then we did the 11am (a very hungry feed) with DH or the childminder as I was going back to work at 4.5 mths. He took to it no prob...but was "easy" this way.

What's your plan? What do you want her doing and in how much time?

Yes, what is the goal? E has only had 6 bottles so far because I don't need to have that option, I just have a small freezer stash for emergencies.

Dont worry-we didnt have an option of doing
a sleepy feed anyway!she didnt CN before the8pm
feed,&then she woke at 10.10pm before i had
planned to DF at10.30pm.

My goal is to keep her on BM as long as i did with
DD1-8months.
I would love to swap the 4pm feed for a bottle, but
i am in no rush.

Right now,it's purely for my emotional health.i *need*
to know that, someday,i can get out by myself for a
few hours.i need that,v badly.also,i would love some
quality time withDD1,just the2of us,kwim?

Lol!
We will play it by ear today i think.
If we can manage to grab her while she's still sleepy
but due a feed,we'll go with it!Otherwise,we'll aim for
the DF.DH is abit nervous to do it though cause we
havent yet.what time would you try it?i feed her at
7am,10am,1pm,4pm,6pm&8pm,give or take.

If she goes down settled and happily sleepy after a decent feed at 8pm I'd try between 10.30 and 11pm myself. We always did 11-ish DF, till 10-10.5 mths LOL!

I know what you mean about the sanity aspect...Emma never took a bottle but was such a great grubber come 6 mths and a great water drinker through a straw that in the end I didn't really need to worry...so you never know!

Yes,we used to do a 10.30pm DF with DD1,but I
dont think we did an 8pm feed.

Today has been a disastr.DH tried giving it to
her after nap 1,but no joy, even though she was
sleeping.

Then nap2 ended up as half a nap with DH not
able to resettle her.

We are going visiting now so that's this
afternoon out.
