Sounds like its very possibly a fixable mechanical issue. Hope you can get IRL help very soon x

Well my wife uses a nipple shield to breastfeed and its been making it a lot less painful.  Is it normal to have pain right in the beginning of the breastfeed?  She says it hurts initially but it goes away.

I wonder she have a painful letdown? Mine was at the beginning and is first thing in the morning still...kind of feels like someone is using a plunger on my breasts!

Yes! I had this for a bit too. Quite uncomfortable but then it would go after a few mins.

Also, initially I always had a bit of pain on my actual nipples themselves because the nipples have to toughen up. They almost get chapped if that makes sense. Is she lathering on the lansinoh. There is nothing wrong with taking painadol and or brufen 30 mins before a feed if she needs too for pain relief. I had to do this when one of my nipples got really torn :o

Yes when mine were torn they did hurt for the first minute or two and then I think they just went numb. As the nipples heal and toughen though that pain should go away. If they are getting damaged again then it could be the latch needs looking at. Has she seen the LC lately to talk about the soreness?
