Is your LO in daycare or at home.? I am just curious. I know I had alot of eating issues with my dd when she was an infant. She gagged on everything. She was on pureed foods until she was about 15mths. The daycare helped me get over that stage. I was so worried that I brought her to a eating disorder clinic that specializes in infants (dysphagia clinic). They said to try to feed her slower and let her play with her food. She is chewing but is having a hard time swallowing it down.
If your LO is in a daycare like mine is, they learn by watching others. That is how my dd started to eat better. But, now that she is two years old she follows the others, sometimes she eats alot and does her own thing. Sometimes, she follows the others who barely eat.
If your LO is around other children, then he can watch them eat. It helps. Sometimes, I have Sofia eat at her own little table (princess table) because she hates sitting on her highchair (getting old for that) and the dining room table is too high for her. So, my dh bought her a princess table. She lovessssss it. It has help her eating issues a bit. She eats. I just learned to ease up on the eating issues.
Just to give you an idea. My backup meal that I know Sofia will eat is Toast with cheese. I sneak in a layer of veggies in there. Sometimes sweet potato or cauliflower (pureed and frozen all the time so it is ready). Sofia ate this meal all week. But at least it is something. I am learning not to fight it anymore and just accept it.
I have made countless recipies that have backfired in the past and a month later she loves it. I guess the idea is to keep trying. I offer Sofia alot of cheese ideas because she lovesss it.
I feel your pain because I went through it and still go through it from time to time.
Hang in there
