Snacks for 14 month old?
« on: October 22, 2008, 19:02:16 pm »

Hello... I am Lia  Nascimento from Brazil and unlike many kids here, José Guilherme follows Tracy's advices and schedule since he was born. Of course, as they grow, changes are necessary, but routine is important for them. Here most kids go to bed at 10:30, 11 and wake up early to go to daycare.school.

JG is 14mo and a half and his routine has been:

7:45-8:00 bottle
9:30: snack: apple, banana, or cereal
12/12:30: lunch (normally rice, beans, meat or chicken and some veggie)
2:00: bottle and nap
4:30: wakes up
5:00 dinner (same as lunch or some soup)
8:00 bottle and bed

I think JG could have more shacks during the day, but I don't want to ruin his dinner, so I don't really know what to do. I don't know if I should reduce his afternoon nap time, or just give him something when he wakes up and a later dinner.  Any suggestions?

tks,

Lia.

Bom dia Lia!
Welcome to the Babywhisperer-
I have a 14 mo son who eats 2 snacks a day about 1.5 hours after breakfast and before dinner, if he wants it. Generally, my DS only eats what he needs, so if he refuses the snack, I'm okay...
he likes bread, eggs, cheese, fruit, soft cooked veggies, crackers...

We dropped to usually 1 snack per day sometime around your son's age, as dd would not eat her meals if she had snack.  Sometimes it is in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon.  To us, keeping sleep times consistent was the main thing.  If he is sleeping thru the night (not waking hungry), I wouldn't change a thing.

My DS#2 eats rice-cakes with full-fat cheese spread, carrot and cucumber sticks with a humus dip, crackers or his favourite at the moment is a farley's rusk for his snacks.
