Hi everyone
Here is an update on the things I have tried. We are successfully moving to a 4 hour easy and I can now keep him up for nearly 2 hours. He does sometimes wake 15 mins before a feed. His consumption has gone up to 7-8 oz per feed as a result so over 5 feeds he's taking 35 oz ish, which for a 14lb 3 month 3 week old is plenty. But he does still get those 5 feeds in 12 hours at 6, 10, 2, 4.30 and 6.30. I re-read Tracey's book on growth spurts in the fourth month and figured it was that so decided the last three nights to add back in a dream feed at 10pm. He would not take more than 3 oz and it made no difference to the night wakings. So I'm not going to bother with the dreamfeed and see what happens.
He wakes erratically through the night, usually about 4-5 times. Only 2 of these do I need to go in and tuck him in. He's waking early at 5.30am for a 'power poo'
. So clearly he's getting through his food quickly. I suppose this doesn't seem too bad when I read the nightmares others are having, but for a baby who always slept soundly it's a new experience.
We bought a sleeping bag, which was a success, so I can be confident coldness is not issue. I lightly swaddle his top half, but he seems happy not being swaddled anymore.
He's still a good napper, taking 2 x 2hour naps and 1 45 minute nap per day.
I have raised his mattress and give him antacids in his last bottle but this hasn't changed the nightwaking.
I was interested by the post on getting ready for solids, as he constantly chews his hand before, during and in between feeds while awake.
I just wish I knew what the night wakings were about.
