Title: 2.5 yr old taking 1 he to fall asleep at night
Post by: claredm on June 29, 2017, 04:14:58 am
My toddler, almost 2.5 yrs, is taking about an hour to fall asleep at night. He doesn't cry out/complain, but I can see him on the video monitor. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with our schedule as this didn't use to happen.
Wake 6.30-7am
Naptime 1-3pm (occasionally 4pm)
Bedtime is 8pm
After stories, we put into the crib and he falls asleep on his own. My concern is it takes ages at night.  He seems overtired (but maybe he's just behaving like a toddler). Occasionally he wakes from a nightmare or when my husband leaves for work (5am) but otherwise sleeps through. Perhaps it's a phase/teething/related to his new sister (she's 5 months). But maybe he should be going to bed earlier/later?

He's getting a lovely long nap. 2-3hrs, right? So my guess is that if he's not up until 3 (or 4) pm from his nap, he's just not tired enough yet at 8pm.

I'd try capping the nap at 1hr30 and see if that helps.

Sometimes you have to cut day sleep a bit to get more overall sleep (more at night).

Most days the nap is only 1.5 hours, so he's getting maybe 11.5 hours total sleep. 1.5 + 10 over night

That sounds pretty typical at this age with a nap.

How is he when awake? Does he seem tired?
