Dropping a feed
« on: January 21, 2007, 14:17:23 pm »
My little 8 mo girl won't drink more than a few ounces at bed time.
She has 4 feeds a day at 5, 9/10, 1/2, and 6 which is bed time.
Is it possible that she is too tired?
Is she maybe having too much solid food?
Should I just to 1 midday feed?

The first sign of your lo being ready to drop a bottle is when they are consistely drinking less of one particular bottle.

Usually the first bottle to go would be the mid morning one before lunch, and then you usually bring luch a bit earlier.

Can you jot down your routine, of what a typical day looks like with the amounts of milk and solid food she is taking.

If she is not drinking much of her evening bottle it could be that perhaps she is filling up on too much solids in the evening and then she is not interested in the evening bottle.

My LO routine is:
5/6am wake up and feed 4-6 oz
7 am breakfast, pureed fruit/ veg (about 1/2 cup)
10am feed 5-7 oz
12pm lunch, pureed veg, a little rice powder or pureed chicken (about 1/2 cup in totAL)
2pm feed 5-7 oz
5pm dinner, porridge and pureed fruit/veg (about 1/2 cup)
6pm bed time and feed used to do 6-7 oz, now maybe 1-3 oz
What do you think?
Thanks for your help!

Your routine looks good.

I see you feed your lo dinner at 5:00pm - it could be that an hour inbetween is too little for her to be able to be hungry enough for her night time bottle.

I would think about offering dinner at around 4:00 ish, to make sure that she is hungry enough for her bottle.  You may find that this is better.

Hope this helps
