12 mon moving into table food. HELP
« on: August 05, 2008, 00:28:17 am »
My LO is now 12 mons old and isn't really into baby food anymore. The problem is I have no idea what to feed him :( That sounds so dumb LOL!  I tried the stage 3 packaged jar food and he really didn't like those too much. So far he loves fruit, beef hot dogs, chicken, and the Graduates Little Sides.
I guess I need menu ideas. He only has 6 teethe. I have no idea how to incorporate veggies. I mad him mac and cheese with pureed squash in it, but I don't know how much he actually ate of the veggie since he sucked the pasta and then put it down.

Hi,

My LO loved steamed veggies and since it was stuff he could eat on his own, he enjoyed it and still does. I have given everything from Avacados, to green beans and broccli and yellow corn.

Stew is also an all time favourite as are boiled eggs.

There are such good ideas around here...I think there's even a sticky at the top of the page???

Cold cereal with milk (cheerios, rice crispies), let it sit in the milk for a bit to soften if your lo doesn't have alot of teeth yet  :)

DD loved waffles, broken up.  Pancakes, bits of muffin, tiny pieces of sandwhich (organic jelly on wheat is her fave), yogurt, toast with apple butter....

We make mac&cheese and I throw in some ground turkey with some mixed veggies (corn, peas, carrots)...she loves that. You can throw teeny bits of chicken in there too instaed of turkey.
Macaroni with meat sauce ( I hide broccoli in the sauce, since dd won't eat it the regular way!)

All fruits worked for us (still do!) watermelon, canteloupe, honeydew, blueberry (cut in halves or thirds...or put them in the pancakes!), cut up grapes, bananas (start with a small amount, then watch for constipation!!! My dd can only have a little banana)

Hmmmmm....that's all I can think of for now, hope that helps!!!    ;D     This is a fun time...new foods...so exciting!!

At that age, they can really eat most of what you eat, as long as it's healthy. Try giving him bites from your plate or dishing him up his own serving. Teeth really aren't much of an issue, since they use their tongue and gums to mush food around. You'd want to avoid raw veggies or things that can't be mushed, like nuts, KWIM? We fell into the separate meal trap with #1 but completely avoided it with #2. She's been eating what we eat since about 10 mo, but if it's something that she truly doesn't like, I've give her something simple like a sandwich or yogurt. Believe me, it's easier to get them used to eating what everyone else eats...the earlier, the better!
