Have noticed just today that the "Quote" button in messages has been changed to "Quote (selected)."
My instinct tells me that this should mean that I can highlight the part I want to quote, hit "quote selected" and only the highlighted part will quote, rather than the entire post. But it doesn't work, it still just quotes the whole post.
So am I just not using it properly, or is it still just the same thing, but named different?
Gareth do you have any idea what I am rambling about or am I making no sense!?

Here is what G told me to do to make it work
in order for this to work you will have to clear out your Cache/Temp. internet files, your cookies don't need clearing but, it's always good maintenance to do both regularly
I am off to do it now ;D

Ohhhh thanks! (Believe it or not in my pre-baby life I was an IT administrator. Now, some days I find myself wondering how to open Word...)
-
;D ;D

Yep, what Lana said that I said ;D It's just one of those very simple things that can make just a little bit of difference :)
It was a new feature that was added last night. Although, it won't work until everybody clears their cache/temp. internet files. It wasn't announced as it's more of a 'soft-launch' feature that should eventually filter into use as peoples caches are updated :)
By request, we're hoping to add a better search engine soon that will, hopefully, greatly improve on the current one.

would love the guidance on how to clear the cache...
Thanks Gareth!
-
hmmm.... did the clearing of stuff and the quote thingy didn't work :-\
-
Did you close your browser wait a few moments and then re-open it? If so, trying clicking Refresh to force a refresh.

Just used it for the above quote :)
Anyhow, How to Clear Your Browser's Cache @ wikiHow :)

still nothing :-\

Which browser and version are you using Rach? Also, do you have the Quick Reply box active or not?
I would be interested to hear of any others having a problem with this.

still won't work for me :( I have an old IE version

Ohhhh thanks!
yayyy it works for me now :)
had to clean the cache 2 times so probably didnt do something right the first time :)
-
Ok, I did the clear again, closed the browser and had to relog into BW and still no luck.
I am using the latest Firefox browser and yes my quick reply box is active, but it goes to long reply when I click the quote button (and I always do long reply to type in annoying purple anyway :P )

Excellent, glad it worked :)

Curious, I have Firefox with the latest updates too. I had the same problem with it defaulting to long reply before I cleared my cache. I just checked my Clear Recent History settings and I have Cache and Cookies check marked, nothing else. Perhaps it does need a cookie clean too, regardless of the developers claims?

Odd.... it just worked on another thread, but not this one.....
-
And... didn't work on another thread this morning....
-
Rachel, i can't even see it yet! :P :-\
-
The quote selected button? It's where the quote button used to be....
-
yeah, mine still says quote. >:( :)
-
Must be G leaving you out again ;) :-*
-
yeah, it's probably revenge. :P he offered to do a couple of things to spruce up the site, which inspired me to ask him to do several more. none of which are possible, apparently. :P ;D
-
You need to get a real browser instead of Internet Explorer :P
It's looking like it may take some time for it to filter down, we shall have to look at it again in a few days time.
-
Hey! Be nice you guys! This is a family site you know! ;)
G, what's the chances of a 'clapping hands' type emoticon?

Still waiting on the software writers. That being said, if you can design Smileys, and prove they are your own work, we can use them - it shouldn't be too difficult to incorporate them :)

I'll get right on that in my spare time! ;) :P
