At what age do you introduce wheat products?
« on: September 14, 2006, 02:48:31 am »
I did a booboo today, I gave 8 month old DS some gerber brand fruit puffs and then realized after eating a bunch that the puffs contained wheat flour  :o.  Should I stop giving DS the puffs?  I was soo eager to teach him to pick it up and put it in mouth.  Plus the puffs also have sugar in the ingredients ::)  Isn't wheat the most allergic type of grain?  Should I continue giving for 4 days and watch for allergic reaction?  I haven't given DS anything with wheat in it so I'm not sure if I should go ahead introduce wheat products now since I've already given him the puffs.  What do you think?

Is their any allergies to wheat in your family? If not then give it a try and if he is fine with it go ahead and continue with it.

yeah, it's only a problem if you have a history of allergies in your family (same with all the other 'allergen risk' foods)

I'd be more concerned about the added sugar tbh. Maybe try some snacks and finger food that don't have added sugar  ;)

Thanks for the info.  Nobody in the family is allergic to wheat...what a relief.
I'm definitely not going to give the puffs anymore because of the sugar

I wouldn't worry about the sugar content in the Gerber Puffs.  It is a really small amount in a huge serving as PP stated.  There is more sugar in fruits then what is in the puffs.
