23 1/2 month old climbed out of crib and resisting naps!
« on: February 28, 2007, 23:48:25 pm »
Hi. DD will be two in a couple of weeks so maybe this is age related. Today she figured out how to climb out of her crib. My mother babysits her during the weekdays and two days this week she would not settle for nap time. Two days ago and today. Today my mother thought she was on her way to sleep and then the next thing she knew DD was out of her room saying "Sydnee climbed out" all proud of herself. My mother tried to get her to have a nap a little while later again but she climbed out again.  :o

Should we give it a few days to see if she goes back to her old ways. Should we switch her bed to a toddler bed (it converts) asap? Isn't two years old a bit early to drop her nap? I told my mother to keep putting her in for her nap every day but if she won't go to sleep she can't force her to. Should we move her nap a bit later? Right now she wakes around 7am in the morning and we put her down for her nap at 12:30pm. She's usually asleep by 1pm. She naps anywheres from 1 1/2 to 3 hours so it would be hard for me to believe that all of a sudden she doesn't need them.

Perhaps this is developmental?? She is learning to talk a lot in the last two weeks. Tonight she was just impossible to deal with after not napping all day. When DH and I got home from work at suppertime she had one tantrum right after another. I put her to bed an hour earlier than normal and she fell right to sleep but it was not a nice evening with her at all which makes me think she really does need her naps. She is usually very cheerful and fun to be around in the evenings when we get home from work.

Any advice is appreciated as DH and I are wondering what to do next.  ??? Thanks!

I would switch her to a toddler bed asap before she gets hurt. My husbands aunt's 2 year old climb out of her crib and broke her hip last year.

For the naps, around two years old you really have to go with the flow. Some days they will drop the naps and others they'll need them.

My big boy is such a wonderful brother to his new sister.
I am truly blessed.

Where are you from?

You could try one of these but they are only available in the US. (I have looked everywhere in the UK, but had to get a work colleague to bring one over in the end)

TBH, now the novelty has worn off she doesn't want to climb out anymore, but some have lovered the cot base. (home DIY may be required, ie new holes etc) I know that lots have had success with this and it's not that difficult to do.   Or, some put plenty of padding at on the floor.  I wouldn't move her to a big bed if I didn't think she was ready.

For naps you could try a different place, perhaps a mattress on the floor, it may take time to readjust but at least she will be safe.
