Which flow teat for EBM?
« on: July 02, 2012, 16:49:44 pm »
My LO has started getting fussy during a feed of EBM? I've been using slow flow teats but wondered whether a medium might go better? I think I have quite a fast flow because she certainly gulps at the breast. Any thoughts?

Hi, i think it is very possible!  If you don't want to spend money buying a new one, just use a needle to add a hole.  HTH

faster flow teats usually have more number of holes.  You can also just buy another teat.  Some brands actually don't have holes and you have to prick it yourself.  It might be country specific.  Like you said, if she is used to faster flow, she won't like it with a slower flow.  Also when she gets older, she will want faster flow at some point.

How old is your LO?
The only thing I would say is beware of bottle preference if your LO is finding the milk comes out a lot easier from te bottle ;) I used the ones for the right age iykwim.

I agree with PP if you are mixed feeding id stick with newborn teats especially at 4 months where they become fussy at the breast anyway. You could try a sippy cup for 4 months?

I bought Medela Calma bottle and my DS loves it. It's a bit expensive but well worth every penny. Little one decides how fast and how strong the flow is and the bottle can be used through all stages of feeding.

My DD got a bottle first time at 5 months and we're using variflow teats. It means he still has to suck, but it's up to him how much he wants.

Instead of a hole, there is a cross and you don't need to buy any more teats later. The price for these is usually the same as for normal teats.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies. I figured out the other day it isn't just hotter feeds she's fussy with, it's daytime feeding in general. She makes up for it at night though :D. I think I'll stick with the teats I've got and aim to introduce a trainer cup at six months.
