Split naps
« on: March 19, 2006, 16:57:27 pm »
Is it ok to have split naps? That is, my lo might first nap 40 minutes and then sometimes be up for A time for 30-40 minutes and then go down again for another nap of up to 1 hour.  Sometimes, I'm able to resettle within 5-10 minutes for the second portion of the nap, but other times, she seems so wide awake I take her out of the crib and then when she shows tired signs again I put her down for her continued nap.  Does this 'count' or is it better to have one continuous nap for resting purposes?  Should I try to resettle her for longer naps even though she seems awake and ready to play?

one continuous nap is the way to go.  it sounds like your lo has a resettling problem if only napping for 30 to 40 min at a time IMHO.  i would shh/pat to lengthen.

One long nap is better but I often have to have split naps.  If your lo is waking up happy then you might just have to go with that for a while. Eventually they learn to have longer naps. Having said that, I would always try to extend for a while. I have just spent a week trying to extend every nap and do you know how many times it worked? Twice! LOL! Don't stress about it.  ;D
