Melissa - I was actually talking to a friend who has a pediatrician who specializes in BF. I hate to leave my own ped. as DD is in the middle of her first year with him, but I think I may go see this other Dr. It does seem to be a conundrum having to have my OB & DD's Ped involved. BTW my OB's nurse was RUDE. I called yesterday and she thought I should just get a higher dose of diflucan. When I told her my concerns about passing through the milk, she treated me like I was stepping on her toes. So she suggested a topical treatment for the vaginal yeast infection & assured me it would not pass into the breast milk. I read the fine print in the package and it says something scary about lactating rats that were experimented on and their pups not thriving as well in the early days... Which brings me to the thought that there must not be enough research on what passes through breast milk & the affects it has.

Anyway, Now I am taking Zazole (cream) and I was told to put DD's prescribed Nystatin on my nipples after each nurse.

We will see how it goes.... I went to Wild Oats yesterday and this awkward man who works in the homeopathic/vitamin/supplement section was helping me. I told him I needed grapefruit seed oil for thrush. I had DD on my hip. He was showing me other stuff, thinking I had thrush in my mouth. When I finally understood that he was misunderstanding me, I explained that I have thrush on my breasts and I am breastfeeding. He was this really tall, lanky, bent over at the shoulders man with a long ponytail that looked like it hadn't been washed in years. He said "Oh, the breasts" and then made motions with his hands where his breasts would be if he were a woman and proceeded to squeeze his invisible breasts twice. He then got redfaced and said he didn't know much about that.... I just kept thinking about him, towering over the aisles of the vitamins, squeezing his air boobies... Crazy....

I actually didn't have to leave my other Ped to see this one.  it was just an extra Dr. as she was a specialist.  That dr. put me on diflucan for 2 months before it went away so I think that it would be safe for BFing considering she was the specialist.  I think it would be ok for you.  I had to take 100 mg twice a day I think it was.  and there are a lot of yeasts resistant to nystatin so be careful with that.

ROTFL about that man.  seriously made me laugh as you described him!  did you get gentain violet for DD mouth when you were there by chance?  we had to use diflucan and that in the end for DS.  it was what ended up working.  that and getting rid of any and all paci's or bottle nipples that had been used.  we had to buy all new and then 1/2 way through do it again and then at the end of treatment do it again!

Thanks for the laugh I needed that this morning!
