10 WEEK OLD first day on EASY - evening???
« on: January 07, 2007, 23:58:12 pm »
My 10 WEEK old son has now finished his FIRST day on EASY and, I have to say,
he's done great with it... (on target with expected E,A, and S times...)  BUT, is there something SPECIAL I should be
doing for the evening feedings, routines that will help ensure that he sleeps longer through the night???  I heard of
cluster feedings, but is that a MUST?  Heard some not so great things about them too.... hmmm thanks in advance.

hi and welcome?

no, cluster feedings are not a must and it doesn't work for all babies. the same goes for dream feed. but I suppose you could try that to help him sleep longer at night.

can you post your routine/routine you're aiming for?

I would love for him to sleep through from 8:00 (I wouldn't mind a dreamfeed around 11:00 I guess?) until 6:00 am.

this was yesterday (his first day)

E 6:30 am

E 8:45    A9:15      S 9:45  (1 1/2 hr)

E 11:45    A 12:15     S1:15   (1 hr)

E 2:45    A 3:10     S 4:00  (1 hr)

E 5:30    A 5:55    S  7:00  (45 mins and LOOKING FOR BOTTLE)
I couldn't hold him off this one time until scheduled feeding!

E 8:00 (should have been 8:30)  <<<NO A>>>  Sleep at 8:20

E 1:00 am

E 5:45am  TODAY - keeping him Active now

hope this is clear??? and I thank you soooooo much for your suggestions and input!!!

hi. I know you dream of a sleep through night! but he's just 10 weeks old and has every right to wake up at least once at night.

you routine looks ok, he's taking nice naps and eating regularly. even if sometimes it's not 3 hrs between the feeds, don't worry- we all do sometimes get hungrier than usual right? ;)

i think you could try that DF at around 22:30. this could help him skip that 1am feed. but DF sometimes doesn't work from the very beginning. so it may take a few days before he starts sleeping better.

still, only one feed in the middle of the night is really good at his age.

keep up the good work and us posted! good luck

Hey Monika!  thanks for your quick reply and advice!!

I do expect him to wake at least once, that makes total sense for sure...  ;)

but, what time does 22:30 mean?  I couldn't figure that out...  ???  I will try that...

oh, and wouldn't my 1:00 feeding last night be a Dreamfeed?  or no?  what classifies a "dreamfeed"?

annnnd, I thank you so much for the "pat on the back" you just gave me!!   :)  It feels good to get some confidence boosters every once in a while...
xoxo Janeen

Janeen,

22:30 is 10:30pm. does it make sense now? ;)

1am feed, when he woke himself up for that feed would not be calssified as a dream feed as he's not 'dreaming'! IYKWIM

it's supposed to be when you feed you baby without waking them. here's the link to DF:

ahhhh haaaa!  NOW I understand the difference!!  I just thought, he's sleeping through it, and goes right back to sleep, so I thought that classified it as such... haa!  thank you!!

gotcha!!

Will keep you/this board posted!  thanks for helping me!  (US)
