Lunch Suggestions
« on: May 01, 2010, 02:17:35 am »
I would love some suggestions for lunch. Our 16 month old goes to daycare everyday and we probably have become to dependent open the gerber graduate toddler foods.  The daycare has suggested we try bringing other food, but I don't know what to do.  We haven't tried sandwhiches because he will not eat cheese.  But, may try that this weekend minus the cheese.  I would appreciate any other suggestions to help us get out of our rut.

Thanks, but I really need some ideas that are more portable to go to daycare. I am not home, so I can't make most of this stuff it looks like.

We do cut up deli meats, crackers, cut up bits of cheese, little pots of baked beans (not heated, DS prefers them right out of the tin), mini bagels, leftovers from dinner, tinned veggies mixed together (peas, carrots and corn are faves)...all things that you don't need to cook or prepare, just put them in some little tupperware pots with lids and you're good to go!

Oh, yes...a grape jelly/jam sandwich....mmmmmmm.   He might like an apple butter sandwich as well!

If he doesn't like sandwiches then you could try wraps/ tortillas with some ham, or some crackers. Whenever i have to make up a lunch for my kids i do little pots of salad veggies, dried fruit, cut up chicken or ham or cheese or even hard boiled egg. You could pre-cook and cool some veggies (carrot, brocolli etc) and do the same. Meals that you can make the day before and that he will eat cold could be good - maybe pasta parcels or plain pasta, rice with veg in it, cold sausages,

I try and include something from each food group so one lunch might be:
A wrap with ham
pot of cut up peppers
banana
mini yogurt

or

Crackers
pot of cut up chicken
pot of steamed carrots
pot of dried fruit
a mini-cheese

Homeware shops/ Ikea sell great mini tupperware pots for small prices.

Cold meats like chicken, cold veggie sausages, veg sticks and a dip. Sandwich fillings like peanut butter, pate (veggie or meat) sugar free jam.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions. I clearly got in a rut and just couldn't think out of it!
