Skipped nap- bed earlier?
« on: April 20, 2006, 01:28:49 am »
Quick question:
If lo skips the last nap/cat nap of the day for reasons that he is not tired (can't get him to sleep no matter what) then do you put him to bed earlier to make up for it? Ie- skips 45 mins of nap- bed 45 mins earlier?
Thanks
PS- Ds is 4.5 months on a 4 hour Easy (does not sleep 2 hours all the naps) and has frequent nightwakings

Hello,
no I never do the earlier bedtime even when the cat nap is skipped. I have tried but it seems my son won't fall asleep until 7:30pm.   After I deal with those  45min naps during the rest of the day---I am going to start working on getting him to catnap at the supperhour. Sometimed he ends up being awake for 3hours depending on when the last nap ends. The cat nap is very hard b/s my dh tens to comehome right at 5pm and then ds won't go to sleep.

this may seem like a silly question, but what is the purpose of the catnap, and when does it take place? my lo will be six weeks on friday..should i be doing these naps? thanks :) we are new to this, and right now she is crying - OVERTIRED from a long day, and a missed nap around 12ish.. it threw off the rest of the day.. :( gotta go

Personally I'd go with the earlier bedtime. I've found that if DS catnaps too late and has a late bedtime we have more night wakings. Not that an earlier bedtime makes THAT much difference  ::)- but that's a whole other story LOL!

thanks for the advice! i just thought that i was a failure bc i couldn't get her to fall asleep for long periods of time at that hour.. now i know i can do it on purpose. also good to hear about feeding and then putting back to sleep for the 8pm bedtime. that has been our most successful bedtime hour..so far. :)

Thanks again ladies-
I did put him to bed 45 mins earlier and he went to sleep and then woke up 45 mins later and then went back to sleep at his normal time. I think he tacked on the catnap to the front of his 12 hours!
