Title: dream feed
Post by: yyll35 on September 21, 2005, 23:31:16 pm
Hi, I have been giving my baby a 10pm feeding since he was a newborn, while he is asleep.  My question is how much longer should I do this?  Now he is often waking up around 9:30 or 10pm as a habit I believe.
Help-some feedback would be great! Thanks

hi there!

i think we need some more info from you.  How old is your lo?  Is he on EASY?  can you post your schedule?  is he bf or bottle fed?

schedule would be great. just to answer your Q right off the bat, Tracy recommends df till 7 months after solids are firmly established.

My baby is 6 months, bottle fed and he is on EASY. He is also on solids but eats 3-5 ounces every 2 1/2 hours. He has reflux so it is good he eats often and small amounts.  I'm curious to know what you all think.
Thanks!

hmmm... well, the df can easily go on until 7-8 months when solids are well established.  i'd be inclined to think that because he eats so little during the day he's waking up for the df to finish up/top off his calories.  i am assuming he does not wake at night again???   if that is the case i would stick to what you are doing.

when you are ready to cut the df, you can slowly decrease the amount in that bottle, but for every oz (or half-oz) you take out, he needs to eat that sometime in the day.

HTH  :D

Around 6 months we started thinking about weaning ds off of his df.  We started decreasing the amount and a few days later, he just spit the bottle out.  He definitely didn't need it, it was just habit.  Sometimes he would wake during the df too.  I think he ended up giving it up on his own in favor of sleep.  HTH!

Thanks so much-your feedback was helpful.  I think I'll stick to it for now.  My baby seems to need it.
Happy mothering!  and sweet dreams!
