Solids and 3 hour routine
« on: January 30, 2006, 20:31:08 pm »
Hi Ladies,
Try as I might, I can't get Sam and Lydia past the 3 hour mark.  This is causing me real problems when it comes to feeding them solids.
At the moment our day looks something like this...
7am(ish) Wake and have 1st bottle, (7oz) then straight back to bed.  They cannot handle being up for any length of time in the morning.
10am  Wake them.  Give them 4oz then fruit/porridge. Occasionally they will have another 3oz.
11.30am Back to bed.
1pm Wake, 7oz bottle.  Is it too soon to give them another solid meal here?
2.30pm Back to bed
4pm Wake, another 7oz. Usually back in bed within 30 mins
Wake them around 6.15 for bath time.
By the time DS1, and 2 babies are done it's nearly 7pm.  Another 7oz bottle and then bed.

I have had a real struggle these past 2 days trying to keep them up for longer than an hour. They will sleep for longer than 90mins if I let them.

HELP!!

Lydia: 28 June 2005
Sam:  28 June 2005

Daniel: 19 July 2007
That's all folks!
(Well, maybe another girl if I can convince DH!)

If they aren't ready to stretch their feeds out just yet, that's okay! It sounds like they're getting the sleep they need, and that's most important. I can see how that would present some issues with solids, though. Hmmm...Their formula intake is right where it should be, and if they don't seem to be hungry, then you can stick with 1 solid meal for as long as you want. If you'd like to start a 2nd meal, I think that sometime between 1-2:30 would be a good time. When you decide it's time for a 3rd meal, maybe you could fit it in when they wake for their bath? Then again, since they're still pretty young, you can hold off on trying to fit in more solids until they're developmentally ready to stay awake longer. What great little sleepers!!! ;D

Wendy, adjusted age they are 4.5mo??? so taking into account that being 'triplets' they are probably even 'younger' I think you are doing great getting 1 solid meal into them,

My friend who had babies born at 28 & 29 weeks  & twins who were 34 weeks, said she always found she was doing things based on their adjusted age & they were still behind, by a few weeks on averages... not that you would know that now as they are 9 (twins), 6 & 5... there is an 8yo who was full term as well :o

Thanks ladies.
I think I might just go with it and stick with two meals a day.  They do eat well so can't be hungry
