Frozen bananas?
« on: February 04, 2006, 21:41:45 pm »
Has anyone ever frozen mashed bananas or avocados in ice cube trays?  I have a load of bananas and avocados at home right now, which I know my family will not be able to eat before they go bad.  Can they be mashed and frozen (separately, of course) in ice cube trays as baby food?  It's a silly question, I'm sure, but we're just starting this whole solids thing and I feel so clueless!

I don't see why not!  Definitely worth a try, I'd say.

I freeze bananas for use in cakes when they go too brown to eat fresh. HOWEVER, be aware that the longer you keep them in the freezer, the runnier they get so you would need to thicken the defrosted banana with some cereal or something like that.

Sure, I froze them all the time when Tyler was younger. They may discolor a bit, but it's just because of exposure to air. It doesn't have an effect on taste or nutrients, just doesn't look as pretty!
