Trenton's first birthday is today, and we made it a full year bf. :D :D :D I know there's nothing completely magic about the one-year mark, but I'm still so happy about it. Since I went back to work at 12 weeks, this hasn't been easy. I am so sick of my breastpump, I just want to smash it.  Plus, after the return of AF at the 6-month mark, it has been difficult. Started to have less milk right before AF, but as each month went on, the time period got longer. Last month, I had less milk from the time of ovulation until AF arrived. So, with lots of extra pumping, herbs, extra nursing when I was with Trenton, and nightime nursings to keep up my supply, we made it. I had only made it to the 8-month mark with Sydney.
Now, where do we go from here? I haven't decided yet. He still nurses 4 times a day; and he definitely still loves his am and pm nursings. I'm not in a hurry to wean him, but I think the 2 daytime feeds will have to go, simply due to a supply issue. I can't fight AF anymore. And I am soooo tired of toting my pump to work every day, cleaning my pump every night, etc.
Thanks for reading my little pat on my back. And thanks for so much support along the way (especially through Trenton's nursing strike a few months back)! :)

Melissa, way to go!!!!!!!!!!!! :D I saw your post title and am grinning from ear to ear. :D
Happy birthday to Trenton! Hope he loved his cake.
-
Stacy, you are such a sweetheart. Thanks.
And yes, he loved his cake--but this is a kid that will eat anything that is put in front of him (except black olives for whatever reason).

Congrats and Happy First Birthday Trenton. :D

Well done Melissa - you are a great example. I returned to work when DS was 14 weeks and we are now a little further than 7 months and still pumping away.
I am SO familiar with the intense hatred of the pump!
I have toyed with the idea of giving up the day time feeds but this is something I committed to and something I want to stick to - so thanks for the incentive. Heading for the 12 month mark... (at least!!)...
Cheers to you!

I hate/ hated my pump too. I didn't make it nearly as long when I went back to work w/ ds#1 b/c I just couldnt' take the only 30 min break I had all day and sitting in a room pumping. UGH! I have used the one I have less than a handful of times the last two kids for just that reason.
Congratulations! Good for you for making it this far. I'm sure it will all work out, just enjoy it while you can.

Whoo-hoo! Congrats on making the year!! :D Know what you mean about the pumping...I'm currently waffling about that too...
-
Yeah for you........cingrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Corruntly pumping as i type at work. Ca't say how much i HATE to pump!!! Only 9 more months to a year! But if i have to pump......at least i have a good one- medela pis- newer version much better. :?

Oh thanks ladies!! Your thoughts are so nice and appreciated.
To those of you pumping, hang in there! I know how hard it is. Gosh, when I started hitting supply issues, I was pumping three times at work, and sometimes one more time after Trenton went to bed. I am pumping only twice a day now, and when I stop pumping, I assume my productivity at work is going to have a huge jump! :D And please PM me if you need any encouragement.
Thanks again. :D

Congratulations! I can't imagine how much more difficult it is to pump and that long. You rock!

Way to go! :D

Well done, Melissa!! :D :D :D

Melissa,I did the same, and started losing milk for my pumpiing sessions at work. Here's what I did. I dropped to one pumping a day, and I started to give DS a bottle instead of a mixture of frozed BM with Baby Organic formula. (he was 9 months old, so we didn't switch to cow's milk yet)
Then I finally gave up both pumpings and gradually DS took two bottles a day with eventually all Baby Organic formula. I now nurse morning and before bed and he gets regular whole organic milk throughout the day with his meals and snacks, about 16 oz a day.
HTH,
Meredith

Congratulations! What a job well done! :D

Way to go, Melissa!!! That's a great accomplishment! It really isn't an easy task (as I've found out). I hate the breastpump, too. I've pumped once in the last 2 or more months. True, I'm lucky in that I don't have to go to work but I also don't have reserve to give DS and, therefore, can't give him a bottle every now and then.
-
That's wonderful! Congratulations! That truly is an accomplishment. Not many woman have the commitment to see it through to a year while working FT and pumping, even with the supply issues. Good for you!

Thanks ladies! :D I think this may be our last week of 4 feeds per day. When I'm not home Trenton is down to one bottle ebm (in the afternoon with a snack). He is drinking whole milk fine from a straw or sippy cup. Not as much as he had been, but a sufficient amount I think. I plan to continue the morning and evening feeds for as long as my body supplies and Trenton is interested.
Would you drop the morning or afternoon feed first?
-
I would drop the afternoon feeding first. Both my kids have dropped the morning feeding last, since that was the most important for them, plus you wouldn't have to pump for that afternoon feeding.
-
oops! I meant mid-morning or afternoon feed. I will definitely continue the early morning feed for a while.

Is he more attached to one or the other?
