cold cereal
« on: September 30, 2007, 14:37:12 pm »
My 18 month has been having a COUPLE tastes of my cereal lately. Latley, I've been eating either total or grapenuts. Like I said - just a few tiny tastes. I have been eating it on the couch so she likes to come over and sit on my lap and she of course trys to stick her fingers in the milk "lol".

My question?? What kinds of cereals do your kids seem to like??? I'm talking about cereal inside of milk. Not standalone cheerios for example.

I don't think we have the same cereal brands in the UK so this is probably no help at all. Sam likes bitesized shredded wheat, weetabix and various kinds of museli.

DS has been eating cereal since 1 yr old.  For some reason we love to use combos of cereal together-we being me, DH and DS!  ;D  We use milk or yogurt with our cereal.  DS loves to use his cereal bowl with straw attached, so he can sup up the milk, it is a great bowl, let me know if you want more info on this bowl.  He uses a big spoon too.  We usually combine:

Muesli and cheerios
Special K and honey nut Cheerios
Shreddies and cornflakes
Rice crispies

We add whatever fruit we have in the house, but his fave is raspberries or cantaloupe.

When we use yogurt, usually it is plain yogurt and we add muesli and fruit and a dash of honey.

HTH,

My DD likes Rice Krispies, Froot Loops (I know...not the best nutritional choice!) or Cheerios (try the Multigrain, they're delicious). She seems to like rounded shapes...for example she hates Flakes of anything...Raisin Bran, All Bran, Frosties etc.

But all in all , she loves cereal and it's sooooo easy once they get the hang of eating the milk and cereal with a spoon!

dd is a HUGE cereal eater - I try the ones that sop up the most milk since she's not a protein eater - so Wheat Chex is my favorite.  Life is her favorite, LOL!  Just about any cereal she'll try, but she doesn't eat it with a spoon, LOL!  DH always jokes, "And all these years I've been using a SPOON!"  ;D

LOVE the bowl with a straw idea...must go find one now!  What brands make them?  I would caution those that give cereal with sugar coatings that you might as well just dump a spoonful of sugar in the milk, LOL!  I can't find any articles but I remember it being a big deal a few years back how much sugar is in milk afterwards.

I also just read some ideas in "Just Two More Bites" - am revisiting it now that dd is becoming pickier and pickier - some good suggestions are adding wheat germ (great for fiber and protein) or flax seed to the cereal for some extra nutrition.  They're so cereal-esque that they often go unnoticed!
