What to do with full breasts?
« on: May 15, 2006, 04:26:03 am »
I should be extremely happy since my 6 months old lo slept through the night for the first time, all 10hrs.
However it didn't mean 10hrs of sleep for me, I had to express milk 2 times, otherwise my boobs would explode.

My question is: should I expect it to be that way till I resign completely from BF, or may  I hope that my boobs will adjust somehow to the nights without feeding?
BTW I still feed my lo every 3hrs during the day.

Your boobs will adjust for sure!!  I thought mine would always stay full and bought 2 boxes of breast pads.  I only used 1 box and the other box is sitting in the closet undisturbed!!  I HARDLY ever leak now  as well. HTH!! ;)
Blessed beyond measure.

Mine adjusted rather quickly, but then i didn't express to relive the pressure.

If you could just express the tiniest amount to give a little relief until your LO wakes for the feed then your breasts will learn that they no longer need to  produce milk for that time of day.

I only leak now when theo feeds off the one breast and the other side leaks a little in preperation for the next feed.

Yes your body will get used tonot producing milk for night time after a few days. Try and hold off pumping as much as possible so your boobs get the message that the milk isnt needed but of course do bear in mind that this is a prime time to catch mastitis. Hope the sleeping through continues  :)

Hi Micky - I have the same exact question - I end up setting my alarm to wake up and see how full I am and then pump if I need to (I produce alot of milk and usually can get 4 oz almost on both breasts with the pump in less than 15 minutes at night!) BTW, my baby is 6 weeks old.
