milk in a sippy
« on: March 14, 2007, 00:36:41 am »
My LO is 9 months old and will take formula in a straw sippy.

I'm wondering how old was your baby when you gave him formula in a sippy cup?  Was it just for introduction and practice for cow's milk at a year old or was it part of a feed?

Did you make up a new feed each time?  I'm just thinking so much goes to waste since my LO just takes a few sips.  Is it OK to put it back in the fridge and bring it out (without heating) for baby to sip during the next meal?

thanks

We used to give DD a few oz at a time in the sippy so that if it was out to long it wasn't such a waist. We started the sippy at about 7 months so she figured it out by about 10. Repeated exposure is really the only way to get them used to it.

Hi there, I wouldn't keep any left over milk for longer than an hour.  What is worse, tipping out a few oz of milk or seeing your LO sick  :-\

I give him water in the sippy during lunch and supper and then he only takes a little of milk in the sippy.
He does not take a full feed in sippy yet,he moans untill he gets his bottle.
But I just keep on trying. Not sure when you only give the sippy??

You'll know when he's ready. For us it was a matter of bottle dependency, DD wanted the bottle 24/7 so we switched cold turkey. After a few days she figured it out, we made sure she had more milk in her foods and stuff, but she was also 13 months old, so didn't need the milk as much. We noticed a big increase in the amounts of food she was eating too.

My LO started using a sippy at about 7mths old.  After a mth of part time use, he started to push away his bottle with the nipple, but would take his sippy instead.  Essentially, I watched his cues and let him tell me what he wanted.
