Sterilizing Bottles?
« on: March 14, 2007, 16:50:27 pm »
Hello,

My son is 6 months now, and at our pediatrician appointment I asked if I still need to sterilize his bottles for formula.  He told me that since he is now putting everything in his mouth (HE CERTAINLY IS!!!), then it is not necessary for me to sterilize his bottles.

However, I am a little skeptical, especially after read the FAQ section, which states to sterlize bottles until 1 year????

Please let me know your thoughts, I am confused, and I don't want his to get sick from not sterilizing????

Thanks

their really is little point in sterelizing once they can put things in their mouths, some people do, i didn't and i know many more that stopped at 6 months, i just washed in hot soapy water others use their dishwasher.
it's entirely upto you ;D

I think there are a lot of mums on here that dont do it after 6 months for that reason. As long as you clean them properly I cant see the problem.I did my dds untill they were both a year old but im not sure why but things have changed, even in such a short time, they are 3 and 4 years old now.At the end of the day do whatever is right for you.
samantha,mum to all.

I got over the whole sterilizing thing very quickly once ds was on bottles full time.  I realized I spent all my time at the kitchen sink and/or sterilizing.

He is now 13 months, had only 2 colds in his life (both came on during teething), one ear infection.  I use the dishwasher.

Thanks for all your replies...i feel a lot more at ease now, I realize that it doesn't make much sense to sterilize anymore.  Especially, seeing how he put everything in sight into his mouth.
Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!!!!
