Title: How long can a 6 month old stay awake for!!
Post by: nenee on July 25, 2007, 08:52:08 am
Hi there

My lo is nearly 6 months and Im finding he can stay awake from 2 1/2 to 3 hrs(the 3 hrs mark tends to be later on) is this about right?  He goes down for naps well and bedtime is a dream.  I gather this A time is ok for a 6 motnh old and does the A time get longer as he gets older and how long will it be for and when does it extend just so I know!
cheers
nenee

hi Nenee

I think your LO is just right on track with A time.
as for how long will it last until it's extended- well, my dd [15 months] can handle up to 4hrs of A time and that's it.
but some other LOs need at least 5hrs of A time at her age so really, it all depends on your LO and how much sleep during the day he needs.

I think this varies for each individual child. My dd would go 4 hours from around 9 months. This went to 5 hours at 12 months.

My son is 5 3/4 months and seems to need more than 2.5-3 hours to get a good 2 hour nap. It changed almost overnight! Last week he was ok with 2-2/12 A time. This week his naps have gotten progressively shorter. Any experiences at almost 6 months?
