HELP!!!

rley is 6 weeks old and we have started the pat and shh and she HATES IT. she actually get so crazed that it takes another 1/2 hour to calm her down..she cries loader then us.. we are exhausted and don't know what to do for her.. does anyone have any suggestions..she is taking the paci which i know is becominga  prop but i can't do anything to get her to sleep. Last night her eyes were swallow shut from crying for 2 hours.. she would quiet down for a few then cry for 15 minutes.. patt sh for hours..

Help!!

Sounds like that stimulates her too much.  Poor babe!!  Pacifiers are ok for the first 4 months. Some actually wean themselves from it.  :o Are you swaddling?  That shoud help, but she may not like it at first.  Try skipping the pat and just shhh and see if that helps.  Or some kind of white noise.  It's a big world out here, and she is still new to it, so she is trying to figure everything out.     :)  It does get better!!

When Tyler was a wee babe, he didn't like pat/shh either. The shhh was okay, but the patting just plain wound him up. After a lot of experimenting, we found that laying a hand on his chest or thigh, sometimes stroking and sometimes not depending on his mood, worked better than patting for him. He also needed to have his eyes shielded, he just could NOT stop looking around. So one hand shielding his eyes (sometimes even touching his forehead), other hand on chest or thigh, and doing the shhh. The swaddle is key too...if you aren't swaddling her, I highly recommend it. Hang in there...like Jenn said, it does get better!
