Question about cluster feeding & sleep
« on: October 13, 2006, 13:19:17 pm »
I've been feeding my 8 week old every three hours during the day, then at 7 pm, 9 pm and 11 pm.  The 11 pm feed is supposed to be a dream feed, but she's always awake between 9-11 and is quite fussy.  She doesn't seem to show any signs of being tired after the 9 pm feeding, but seems to be fussy from gas.  She usually has a cat nap around 8 pm, but it doesn't last long.  If she wasn't cluster feeding, I'd like to get her in bed around 8 pm and then hopefully do a dream feed at 11 pm.  Normally after the 11 pm feed she goes down to bed fine and sleeps until 7 am.  Any ideas on how I can actually make the 11 pm feed a dream feed?  Thanks!

Personally if it were me and my baby was doing 11pm till 7am I would be ecstatic!!  The whole point of the Dream feed is to tank them up to get them thru the night.  Sounds like your little girl is doing that already.  :)

Thanks!  And all along I was doing something wrong since she wasn't sleeping between 9-11.

I agree you are doing great.

If you wanted you could always move your cluster feeds to say 6 and then again at 7, put your lo to bed, and then do a dreamfeed around 10:00.

We found the two clusters followed by a dream feed didn't wake for Daniel, (now 14 months), so I adapted the times to suit us. We did a feed at 4pm. One at 6pm. One at 8pm, (by this stage our wee man was out for the night), and the dream feed at eleven just seen him through to morning. We were able to drop the four pm feed quite quickly and moved to the two cluster feeds at 6 and 8 and eventually we were able to stop the dream feed altogether, although I must say I missed it. My husband hated doing it cause he was all fingers and thumbs with the bottle etc. But it was my favourite feed!

Hope this helps.
