6 mos old - habitual waking or time to drop dreamfeed?
« on: August 14, 2006, 13:39:08 pm »

My DD hasn't slept through the night in months - first she got a paci addiction when she learned to roll over, as it was the only way I could calm her as she seemed scared when she did it in the night.  I weened her from that (mostly - sometimes I cave if I am really tired and the shhh isn't working), but she still wakes atleast 2x per night, once around 1am and again around 4am (I feed her at 4), sometimes the 1am is a couple wakings at once

How old is your child? 6mos
What’s his/her daily routine? E (bf) 5:45, E (cereal)7:00, S 8:00 (1.5 hrs) E(bf)10:00 E(cereal & fruit/veggie combo) S 12:30-1:00 (1.5-2hrs) E(bf)3:00 E (cereal and fruit) 3:30 S 5:00 (30-45 min) E (bf) 5:45 A bath,massage, cuddle (she is usually very cranky at this time 6:30pm, DF 10:00 (sometimes she wakes before I can get to her), Wake 1am, Wake and feed 3:45ish
What’s nap routine?2 naps and a cat nap
How long are naps? 1.5 hrs avg
What's bedtime routine? Time? bath, massage, 6:30
Do you bottle or breastfed?? BF
How much? or how long? 4 hr easy, 5-10 min
If breastfed.. one side or both?? (at each feed) both
How many wakes per night? 2-3 sometimes more
What’s your LO like when waking at night? How long is he/she up? starts to fuss, then full blown cry, sometimes I give paci, but usually just shhhhh and move her if she has gotten stuck.
When you go to him/her is she fussing or crying? Or is it a mantra cry? starts as mantra then cry
What have you tried to settle?? shhhh pat
What do you do for A time and how long is it? exersauser, play on blanket, practice sitting, go to park
Are there developmental issues such as teething or milestones? she is learning to sit, rolls alot
Have you introduced cereal? Why, how much, and how many times a day? (for LO’s under 6 months)
Do they have a prop? If so what is it? paci sometimes
Do they have a lovie?no

My question is - should I try to drop the DF? If so, how do I do that for a BF baby? Does it sound like a w2s problem?

Any help is much appreciated, your help with the paci problem was great.

Jaime,

Have you tried PU/PD? I am wondering if maybe your DD is in need of actual sleep training now.

As for the dreamfeed, I'm not sure what to tell you about that. I could never do one so I'm definitely no expert! Tracy says though that it should be dropped by 7.5 months so I wouldn't think that it would be impossible for you to do so now.

Thanks for the help - both of you!

I dropped the DF cold turkey last night - only had to do one PU/PD, and then she slept through til her 4am feed (my fault as she goes to bed at 6:30) It was wonderful!

I thought the DF was the reason for the waking because when I gave her the DF 3 hrs after going to bed, she always wok 3 hrs later, and when I tried giving the DF 2 hrs after going to bed, she then woke 2 hrs later.

I hope this continues to work, and then I will try to drop the 4am feed, but for now I would be happy without the middle of the night wakings. :)

Thanks again,
jaime

Fabulous - and love the picture!!!  ;D  ;D

I could never do a DF either, it also made my DS's wakings far worse. So no worries, it's not for everyone!

So far so good, she slept from 7-4 last night - the best sleep I've had in quite some time!  The DF was really helpful early on, but it seems she has outgrown it.

Thanks again!
