I am just wondering this because I usually give the solids right before the bottle 3 times a day. My lo is almost 6 mths old. He seems to tolerate this way well.

Because I believe that at a young age, the bottle/breast is the main source of their nutrients. It ensures they get the full nutrients while the lo's are making the switch or addition of solids. My lo, however, wouldn't do it that way around, we were always opposite with no problems :)

We always gave bottle 1st because like it was posted earlier, the bottle/breast is the most important form of nutrients.
Now that my LO is 8 months, I am wondering should I give solids, wait a little bit and then bottle??
I don't know

We gave half of bottle first and then solids and the rest of formula to wash down .The reason we did it this way was because Ryan wouldn't wait for his bottle , this is the way he wanted it and it worked .As he got older he started to favour his solids so we changed the other way around , he did start to drop his milk intake and by 9/10 months had dropped a feed

I give DS his bottle first because he's usually really hungry in the morning and can't wait for me to warm up his baby food.  Plus, he's getting most of his nutrients/calories first so that he will be able to sleep through the night.

i had tried it the other way around and LO would be full from solids and not take entire bottle so we were losing formula.  but if bottle is first, she'll still eat all the solids.

Agree with Mlee but have now started to do bottle after solids for every meal except breakfast (too hungry and when i go back to work i will feed bottle & he will have cereal with childminder) - working ok at moment and is helping me increase amount of solids i give.  Lucas has had a hungry day today though and drained all of his bottle (usually leaves 1-2 oz) and had veggies and yogurt - hopefully a growth spurt :)

metstark - my LO has the same exersaucer.  she loves it.  i hid her pacifier in that little box thing and the first thing she does when i put her in the exersaucer is open that box.

It is an awesome exersaucer mlee isn't it! I do the same thing with his pacifier! He's getting a little too tall for it so I guess we won't be using it too much longer :(, but he seems to like playing on the floor more now anyway so that's a plus :)

I used to offer Ben's solids before his bottle, but I started having trouble getting enough of his bottle into him, and because he's growing and the size of his appetite is a moving target I found it difficult to estimate the amount of solid food he'd eat that would leave him hungry enough to also finish off a bottle. After a few months I started offering his bottle first, solids about 1-1.5 hrs later and it's made things easier all around. And besides, I can't help thinking he must be one thirsty (as well as hungry) kid first thing in the morning and I don't like to take away from his appetite with water.

My lo will be 7 mths old tomorrow, but he is a very big boy for his age. He's almost 24 lbs and 74 cm tall! Auburn hair just like his mommy and blue eyes like daddy, so cute! How old is your lo? Walking or just about?
