4+ now, and it seems to be all over. He eats, tries new stuff, gets hungry. Eats some veggies and some fruit. Has favourites and a bit of a limited set overall.
But - the child eats ;D.
And if he eats, DD tends to fair much better as well. She is 2.5, and has the normal nonsense. Gets picky. Gets too tired to eat. Decides messing in it is much more fun. But watching her brother eat and eat she does far better really :).
Those of you older Mama's will remember all the worrying I did about DS. All the tears. The limited diet, the feeding aversion after reflux, the age 2 pants and the 0.4th centile. Well he is still in age 2 pants, and still on the 0.4th centile, but he eats, so I care so much less!
Any of you with difficult eaters - hang in there - seriously don't make food and mealtimes an issue - we never did. I always gave in and just rolled with the limited diet and less than perfect nature of it :-[.
But Jacob seems to be living proof that they can just outgrow it. He makes yummy noises about food. He asks me to make things he has eaten and enjoyed at nursery. It is so great :D.

Liz this post has put a HUGE smile on my face.
Not because I have a picky eater (knock on wood she stays that way and FX that DS continues the way he's going - I have greedy kids :P Just like their parents ::)) . . . the reason it makes me smile so much is that I remember us being on the 'what your toddler ate today' thread a couple of years ago and how much J's eating would stress you out. I've heard so many times that picky eaters grow out of the phase but I haven't had any experience of it - however, now I do have the proof ;D So . . . if either of my LOs go through a pick eating phase I will just sit back and relax (easy to say now LOL!) safe in the knowledge that 'this too will pass'! ;)

Thanks - you probably remember the list of next to nothing and how every meal was essentially the same as well!!
I could finally post in that thread and feel proud of myself, as well as DS :P.

oh liz i am so happy!! i do remember the both of us tryihg to work out calories in hopes our boys had eaten more than just 40 in a day :-) my ds is coming through the other end of it as well and i also think a lot of it came from the not caring so much. we still worry about his size - MIL bought him some age 3 trousers from blue zoo over the holidays and they fall off of him but he is eating now so i have to believe it is him and not his diet :-)

Yay! I do remember all your posts about what he ate and how difficult it was, so I am thrilled that you don't have to worry about it any more. It didn't go on for as long with m, but I remember the stressfulness of the picky eating and the relief when it was all over.

Oh, and I seem to be just going into it with x! ::) He has hardly eaten all week and has lost over a pound - but then he has a ways to go before he isn't pretty chunky, so I am not too concerned!

Yeah! That's great news!
My boy is eating much, much better too - we are pulling our hair out over DD, just like we used to do with DS (but she is well covered so it's not the same!) so hopefully she will follow him.
I do still worry because despite scoffing plenty of food, asking for snacks etc he is still not gaining weight and is now down to the 2nd centile - we are seeing the paed again soon ::) ::).

Great news!
E has never been as picky as O and it was HER eating solids and loving them independently that helped HIM to eat more and more. Now its a pure joy. We were out today for a meal in a restaurant with friends with a 1.5 yr old and 3.5 yr old. Both of ours polished off a whole adult meal each with veg and salad sides and all (no sausage and chips kids meals available here so much). Friends were amazed but at the same time glad it will take a while before theirs will do that - for their pockets at least!
Such a joy, isn't it?

Oh the days of 40 calories are long gone :). But the days of the pants hitting the ground are not over yet ;). He is so skinny! Just starting to need age 4 for the length really, so my Mum is back to sewing elastic into everything again. And there are plenty of shops that don't fit at all.
The age 3 pants from mothercare being a prime example ::).
But, just for fun ;), today he ate,
B Rice Krispies and toast and fruit juice
S Wheetabix and vanilla yoghurt
L Roll, Butternut Squash Soup, smoked salmon
S Shortbread left over from Christmas
D Chicken, Mash, Carrots and Gravy. Ice cream for pudding.
All proper portions. None of this had one mouthful of ::).
Tomorrow he wants cheese and potato pie for dinner. We honestly can't believe it ;D.

Yay Liz! So pleased for you. And well done, J as well.
(I find I'm still a bit traumatised from my days of reflux and intolerances. My kids eat fine now and have for a long time, but I still don't enjoy feeding them, and it's purely a hangover from the days it was just so stressful and heartbreaking :-[)

Amazing Liz! We have started calling ds1a walking stomach and images of being eaten out of the house by teenage boys are slowly becoming reality. Mine is super skinny as well though, they both are, and I suspect they will always be. Ds1 wears size 4 for length but the are so baggy, and ds2 is sill in 18-24mo pants (he wore 6-12 more swim shorts last week!) :o

LOL Em - I bought J some new swim shorts a few weeks ago and still bought age 1-2 years :o :P. I needed them to stay up on a water slide thing!!
DD just isn't the same at all. She is slightly smaller than average iyswim. So she wears a few 18-24 mth things, but most stuff is 2-3. Will be ages before she fits age 3-4 mind!

So happy to hear!!! DS is always asking to try my salad leaves!!! Just that he would opt to put something foreign especially in the green section in his mouth is enough!! They feel safe enough to venture new things!! What more surprises are they going to bring us?? ;)
