how many bottles at 11months
« on: July 19, 2011, 01:36:45 am »
DS is just over 11 months and is taking 3 bottles a day (1/2 formula 1/2 whole milk). He is currently having bottles at 7am.. offer 6oz but only take 3-4oz, 2pm.. offer 6oz takes 5-6oz and bedtime 7pm offer 8oz takes 6-8oz.  I am just curious when most babies go down 2 bottles.

Most bottle fed babies drop to 2 bottles around the year mark, morning and bedtime is the "norm" and ideally they should be moving off bottles to use a cup. They need around 14oz of dairy then to get their needs met, and this does include the milk in food.

I know he is quite close to 1, but has his Dr or health person given approval for him to be drinking cow's milk now? The recs are that cow's milk isn't suitable nutritionally as a drink/ feed until they are 1 year old, but can be used in cooking and on cereal.

The Dr. did say that it was fine to give him cow's milk because he wasn't drinking formula anymore.  She told me to try to see if it would help and it did.

Also in Ontario, not sure if it is the same in every province in Canada, but you can normally start the introduction of cow's milk little by little after 9 months as long as there isn't an intolerance.

Same thing over here in BC :)  So long as LO is eating a good variety of food :)
