2 questions Eat and Sleep- Help
« on: April 21, 2006, 13:49:48 pm »
Hello

I have a 4 month old lo who is on 4-hour easy since 7 weeks.
She does not nap very well, but we are working on that and with some success her naps are starting to extend past 45 min.
My lo usually sleeps from 7-7 with a DF at 11 and a night waking around 3 or 4 for a feed. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been able to eliminate the night feed, but now she is waking up at 5 not only to eat, but to stay up for the day.

1. How do i extend her waking up even 1 hour till 6?

2. When she wakes up at 5 she is not crying for food, but will eat if I feed her. I have tired feeding her an entire feed(6 oz), but then her whole schedule is off and she is exhausted by 5 pm at night. I have also tried to feed her a couple of oz. The problem is if I feed her a couple of oz she will not eat again until 11. I have tried feeding her earlier, but she just wont take it. I have tired just giving her soother at 5am as well and she will take it, but not go back to sleep even though she is yawing like crazy.

Any suggestions would be help!
Thanks

What other stuff are you trying to help her go back to sleep?  Pu/pd or pat/shh?  What helps us is that with every sleep session we turn on her crib aquarium.  It plays for about 10 minutes or so.  It serves as a sleep cue for her and works if she wakes during the night.  I'll keep thinking, but HRH is whining.      :D
When you're soaring through the air, I'll be your solid ground.  Take every chance you dare.  I'll still be there when you come back down.

When i hear her up at 5 i go into her room quietly and she is just sitting there talking to herself, not crying, but smiling and ready to start the day.
I have tried PU/PD, but it stimulates her more and actually does not help her get back to sleep. pat/shh use to work on her when she was younger, but not so much now that she is older. I had to take out all of the mobiles from her crib because it just keeps her awake. LOL she is a very active baby.
this morning i picked her up gave her a full feed and she went back to sleep for 45 min. I do not want to get in the habit of this at all.

what would happen if you just left her there?  if she's just awake & looking around, she may just drift back asleep on her own until a more desirable wakeup time.

Hi

I have tried to leave her there and she just talks and talks eventually after about half an hour or so she starts to get whinny and frustrated that she is still in there.
Do you think that wake to sleep would work in a situation like this? Say i went in at 4 and disturbed her, not wake her up, but just to stir her. I  don't know, just tyring to think of anything to get her to sleep  for at least 1 hour longer.
Any suggestions on whether i should feed her a full feed or not at that time or should i just hold off till 7?

wake to sleep is worth a shot; it's pretty common for night wakings like this to occur at 4 months.  i was successful doing it with luke at that age.  although, instead of going in an hour before the habitual waking, i was lazy & did it around 10:30-11pm when i went to bed.  that way, *i* didn't have to get up!   :-[ ;)

did it work when you went to bed? She has her DF at 11 so i thought that might stir her a bit, but actually over the last few days she is waking up more, She is up at 2 4 and 530 now. i am going crazy. I don't know what to do

yes it did - couldnt' believe it, but it did.  although... i did not do a dream feed with him, so that may have been the difference.

it might also be that 11pm is getting to be too late to do the dream feed - that really is the outer edge of doing it.  might want to try moving it sooner, maybe to 10:30
