Cheese is just as good for calcium/dairy as yogurt so she can eat that in cubes, strings, grated, etc.  1.5 ounces of cheese is equivalent to 250 mls of milk for a dairy serving.

Pieces of toast dipped into yogurt or pieces of fruit dipped into yogurt.

You can also add formula powder to her food and each scoop you get in is one ounce of formula, iykwim? You just have to make sure that she drinks that many ounces of water as well (not necessarily right at the same time, but in the day). So even a scoop of formula into her yogurt and then she has an extra ounce there.

It's a common age for them to drop milk intake really low especially if they are being offered too many times. How many times a day do you feed her? ie/ If she is still on 3 bottles then maybe drop her down to 2, and within a couple of days she will increase her intake (can take a couple of days before they twig onto it).

Is she drinking other liquids? Have you tried plain yogurt with her? The flavoured yogurt contains sugar which they don't require at this age, not to mention it can lead to them having a preference for sugar and sweet things, los really don't need to have desert after meals.

Good points on the cheese and suggestions from mashi! Just watch the cheese you use as some can be high in sodium.

hi,
lo drinks A LOT of water... its pretty hot here and she loves it... she also takes fresh juice for lunch sometimes... but that s about it. what other liquids can I give her?
She s not into plain yogurt, unless it s mixed with pureed fruits or given with lunch meals. thank God she still loves her veggies and non-sugary food!...

Siobhan ... I found one nice recepie that lo loves...
breast chicken cut into thin slices and soaked in plain yogurt over night. the next day, just dip the pieces a bit more until the pcs are covered then coat them with bread crumbs and put them in a greased covered pan in a preheated oven for 15 mins... the chicken comes out extremely tender and yummy :)

if your lo drinks from a straw, you can make smoothies for her.. fruits with crushed oats and yogurt or even formula... mine isnt yet into straws...

also you can mix milk with eggs (yolk if you dont give the white) and cheese ( and anything else you like, eg mushroom, parsley ets) and make a scrumbled egg.

I gave lo some Halloumi grilled cheese the other day and she loved it! :)
but it is quite salty...if I soak it in very hot water for an hour I think it will become less salty...

1.5 ounces of cheese is equivalent to 250 mls of milk for a dairy serving.
thank you for this tip Mashi, as for mixing formula with food, I do that with breakfast adding it to cereal or weetabix...

thank you all
big hugs

Aside from her milk if she's taking both water and juice, she doesn't need additional liquid if she's taking in enough. I only asked as you mentioned she was only taking 3 oz of milk in a day which is really low considering her age. I would try to get her taking more milk by cutting down on the juice and/or water. Maybe only offer milk right before/after the meal and only water between meals during snack time. Besides, they really don't need juice at this age because juice doesn't really have any nutritional purpose, the vit C they get in juice they will get in their fruits and even veggies.

Have you tried offering her plain yogurt as a dip for her fav fruit or veggies? It might be a way to get her used to it. Or, try over a time period to blend in less and less fruit with it.

Love your idea on mixing milk with eggs! I would have never thought of that! My ds is taking less and less bfs as he just wants to pop off and see what's going on around him. I have frozen bm that I use for his cereal but I always end up dumping about 3 ounces down the drain as he's still bfing so doesn't need it in a bottle. I think I'll use it in egg for ds or maybe even for my 4 year old dd who has eggs regularly for breakfast :)!!

Hi and thanks mashi, lo is on one morning bottle.... Do u think we can cook with formula milk eg.bechamel sauce ?...

You can make sauce with formula but it's pretty nasty tasting and not sure LO would like it.

Do you mind if I ask why your LO is only on one bottle? If you are struggling to get her to take more than 3 ounce sin a day but only offering it once, is there a reason you are not offering it to her twice - at this age usually one bottle in the morning and one in the evening is average.  if she is filling up on solids and that is compromising her milk intake, at this age it's still best to drop down her solids a wee bit to keep her formula level up, at least until she's one.

ok so, just to make things clear , I DO offer 2 bottles for lo! but she takes 1 only!.
I ve been dealing with her milk intake fussiness since even before she started solids... and there is no medical reason for it. My MIL said all her children stopped milk at 6momths!... so maybe its just that!...

the first bottle she take in the morning after breakfast... I offer a bottle when she wakes but she takes only 1 oz then after breakfast before her first nap... she sometimes takes another  4oz sometimes she doesnt, even if the breakfast wasnt that big.

I offer a bottle at bedtime... she sometimes takes 4 oz sometimes none regardless of her solid intake for diner.
I am trying to reduce that diner portion but it only got her to take a wee more... so I thought i d rather she would have a proper diner, iykwim...
And she doesnt have any hunger night wakes.

as for the other liquids, Gaia just doesnt like me to offer her milk instead of water... she needs the water... its very hot in the UAE and we drink water all day really. The juice, is 1 oz of orange juice diluted with 1 oz of water taken right after lunch, I dont think it interfer with her milk intake.

so thats about it... the ladies on the bottle feeding forum where of great help, and I am just trying to increase now her dairy intake in the foods.

I give her A LOT of bechamel and cheese sauces for lunch that she loves and the baby yogurt that she also loves.
but I m at loss for breakfast and diner...
yesterday,  she just would nt have any diner AT ALL! swhich is very rare, bc she loves her finger foods,so we ended up with 6 oz of milk and not NW... should I just not offer diner at all and try to get into her more milk this way?

let me know what you think,

thank you all

Hi there,

Sometimes I mix DS's yoghurt with water and give it to him in his sippy. Its pretty refreshing and then he gets both in one go. You could also mix yoghurt with mint leaves, cucumber or cilantro for a dip for the veggies, if your LO won't eat it plain. You could also mix with rice or chickpeas for something that she could pick up. If you can find it there, you can mix fromage frais with fruits which has a little sweeter flavor than just plain yoghurt but still has the calcium. HTH.

I also wanted to say thanks for your earlier suggestions, you jogged my memory mentioning the bechemel sauce. I gave it to my DS today with some pasta and it was quite the success. I will have to try the chicken sometime later this week. Good luck and stay out of the heat!

Hi, and thanks for the suggestions. Lo has been accepting better the spoon, and enjoying finger foods around diner time, bread and cheese taosted sandwich is hit too :) the chicken/yogurt is always a hit... the pb is the next day any left overs become a bit hard to chew! but then you can add them to any other meal.
:) X
