Meats and baby cookies...
« on: February 01, 2006, 16:33:41 pm »
I was just wondering when I can give my lo meat (chicken, pork, beef..) and when I can give him baby cookies to gumm on?  He's 6 months next week, his two bottom teeth just broke out; has been on solids for about a month and is now up to 3 meals a day with bf 30 min to 1hr before meals.  He's had cereals, 3-4 fruits and 3 veggies...  Do I continue with these?  I can't seem to find anything on starting meats or cookies?!  Thanks  :)

i would wait until solids are well established and u have gone through all of the fruits and veggies more than once - as far as the cookies - i don't think it is a problem at this age (as long as they are age appropriate) - but that is all just my opinion.i am just starting dd on meats now and she will be 8 months soon.

I started my little one on solids at 4 months ( cereals, fruit, veg) and on meat and wheat at 6 months. First chicken, lentils and tofu, then fish, then red meats. Baby biscuits should be fine now, if they are age appropriate.

Hi there!  I started teething biscuits and arrowroot cookies at about 6 months and meats at 7 months.  I made sure that I had gone through a lot of veggies and fruits first.  Then I started with chicken and turkey.  I started beef about a month ago.  My ped said to wait on fish and pork until after 1 year.

Hi,
i started my lo one arrowroot cookies at 6 months(2 weeks ago).
Just had to keep an eye, it took about 3 cookies b4 he got the hang of chewing.  It was so funny when he started to chew, it was more like a slow smack.
He gaged a couple times and I made sure i ws right there just incase, but I read it is normal for when they start to do that, just there bodys way of not letting them choke, and a learning experience for them.

Just to add to that-What does everyone think about cheerios??

dd thought cheerios were for playing the first time (last week in fact) the second time she was trying sooo hard to put them in her mouth but ended up just sucking her thumb - the third time was a charm - she got it and loves them!

Thanks!  I will try the cookies this week!  He hasn't gone through all of the veggies and fruits yet...so I'll wait on the meat.  Did you introduce on veggie or one fruit every 3 days for 3 days?  One at a time?  I find it takes a while...   ???

I did not bother with low risk foods, introducing something new every day... Naughty mummy. No problems with anything.
