I have been on two naps for a week now with 9 1/2 month old and have been getting NW and EW and a mix of apparently OT and UT naps....

I have included the weeks schedules (!) as every day seems to be different sleep wise and I can't quite pick out the best options, but I was wondering what approach to take later today, should I cap this afternoon nap  - or leave it long and aim for a short A time before bed? Please feel free to skip to the end and just look at today's EASY!!! I have included the whole week for my benefit really as I think it's good to get it all written down

(starting on day two of 2 naps)

day 2
previous night NW 3,
A 5.45 milk 6.30, breakfast 8 (A 3. 50)
Sleep 8.35 (in bed 8.34!)
s 8.35- 10.25 (s 1.50 - longest sleep for months!)
A 10.25 - 2 (A 3.5 hr)
sleep 2 - 3.15 (s 1.15)
A 3.15 - 7.20 (a 4 hrs - took 40 mins to get to sleep lying on back sucking thumb)

Slept until 4.30 - longest sleep for months

day 3
A 4.30 am - fed - back to sleep
A - 6.20 - milk at 7,food at 8 (activity 3.10)
S 9.30 - 11.15 (s 1.45)
A 3 hrs 30
S 2.45-4 s(1.15)
A 4-7.15 (A 3.15)
Sleep 7.15

NW 1.30 - fed
Awake 6.35 (This is pretty much our best day/night combo this week)

day 4

A 6.35 - 9.20 (A 2.45 - really tired seeming)
s 9.20 - 10.35 (s 1.15 - woke crying)
A 10.35-2.05 (A 3.5 hr)
s 2.05 - 3.10 (s 45 min)
A 3.10 - 7.05 (a 4 hour)

NW - 7.50pm, 10.30 - cried until 12 (can't remember whether I fed her but I always stay with her with my hand on her if she is crying), EW 5.30   - it seems that short naps plus 4 hour A before bt doesn't work!!!)

day 5
A 5.30 fed and got up 6.30 (A 2.50)
s 8.25 - 10.35 (s 2.15!- catching up on last night?)
A 10.35-1.20 (a 2.50
s 1.20-3.40 (s 2.20 - i woke her up but she woke as I walked in room so probably getting up any way)
in bed 6.40 asleep 7.05 (A 3.5hr)

NW 9.15 - farted and back to sleep, 10pm - helped her back, 2pm (fed)
EW 5.30 (crying) - took in my bed - cried for an hour and went to sleep
Awake 7.30

Seriously ...she had a brilliant day so why the bad night?  This is why I worry that two full naps may be too much day sleep..hence my worry about letting her sleep this afternoon if she wants to..

day 6 (yesterday - I'm nearly done! - a strange day!)
A 7.30 - 10.10 ( a 2.40 seemed v tired)
s 10.10 - 11.25 (s 1.15)
A 11.25 - 2.15 (a 2.45 - seemed very tired)
S 2.15 - 2.45 (s 30 min)
A - 2.24 - 5.15 (2.30)
Bed 5.15 and straight asleep - figured I should bank some sleep time as she had been miserable all day

NW 1 am - fed
EW 5.30 (not surprising maybe!)

Today

A 5.30 - 8.40
S - 8.40 - 9.10 (30 min) - didn't look like resettling, ut on potty, had a poo and then back in bed , back to sleep by 9.55
S. 9.55 - at least 11. 23 (currently asleep but I can hear her stirring...so probably 1.30 + 30 mins sleep from earlier)

Plan now is to have ? 3.5 hrs activity?? It looks like this tend sto lead to 1.15 sleep from most of the days this week, so should I push this activity a bit longer? or is that about right, I guess I would like to try a short AT before bt tonight...and if I push it longer, do I then wake her if she goes past 1.30??

So much info to digest.  I hope someone has the time to read but understand if yu don't!!

Many thanks!

OK, if I'm reading right, I think you're on the right track with letting her sleep as long as she wants in the AM and capping PM around 1.15 -- you also seem to do best with a pretty consistent A time of just over 3 hours -- looking back over your EASYs, it seems to me that your problems come when your second guess the A times because she seems tired and put her down earlier -- you're getting shorter naps then.  I agree that it is hard to keep them to the A times that you know will work when they seem to be tired, but often babies are just used to sleeping at a certain time.

Does that make sense?
