Age to indroduce solids?
« on: March 02, 2006, 08:48:36 am »
I find this intesting as we are all told not to start until babies are 6 months but yet i find alot of people starting earlier than that. I admit i started DD at 4 months and have never looked back.

I voted 4 months - it was acutally about 4.5 when we started but I had been considering it for a couple weeks before. Since ds had a lot of trouble with gas and has reflux I was planning to wait until 6 months, but he's so big the doc told us to start right then, he needed it. And boy did he - he's a champ when it comes to the solids, and has no trouble with anything.

I put 6m, as this is what I did with dd1 and is what I plan to do with dd2 (she is just over 5m at the moment)... oooh, so I think I'll go and vote twice!

It was 4 mos. for my dd.  I planned to wait until 6 mos., but I swear when she turned 4 mos. she just wanted food!  She was always grabbing at our plates/cups/utensils and whining for food and then she started to seem really hungry after a couple of hours after a feed.  I did cereal only until she was 5 mos. and then started introducing fruits/veggies.

I voted five months.  My little man is a big boy too and I thought that I wanted him to get the hang of solids a bit earlier so that we could hit the ground running for the six month growth spurt.  He was also showing lots of interest in us eating and imitating us chewing.  Didn't make any difference, though.  He is getting better but still pretty suspicious of anything other than mummy milk.  Clearly, he thinks eating is just something for mummy and daddy to do.  And he has started waking in the night during the last couple of weeks anyway!  I was amazed by how many people from my antenatal and postnatal groups started so much earlier.  I also read something in a magazine saying that fifty percent of British mums start solids before four months!
