When did you stop using the pushchair/stroller?
« on: March 03, 2008, 12:12:41 pm »
It looks like ours is coming to the end of it's use as Leorah wants to walk everywhere  ::) She is only 17 months and I really need to get places quickly sometimes without inspecting every flower/snail/litter/dog poo ( ::)) on the street! The only time I can get the dog out for a decent walk is when she wakes from her nap (in the pushchair) and feed her lunch on the move!! Luckily she can walk for ages without tiring but I am definitely going to have to find an alternative, probably a trailer for my bike. Just wondering when other kids grew out of their pushchair for good, I really miss my twice daily power walks and am now  going to have to find alternatives and do more exercise after she has gone to bed and BTW the dog is not happy at all lol!!

I think we stopped using ours at around 18 months too. He's a little ball of energy, and being strapped into a pram was just too restricting for him, he loves walking, and is so proud that he walks everywhere :)

Btw, a good alternative is a trampoline (for you both ;)), I end up shattered after we use the one here - or alternatively sticking some good music on and boogeying around the house. Great exercise :D

Leorah is the same, she is very proud to walk and when we try and put her in the pushchair she looks at it in distain like "I'm not a baby!". I do actually have a mini trampoline but we have just discussed getting a bigger one for L with the net a round (not the huge one but bigger than a rebounder) I must admit I I kind of want it for myself too  ;)

Our DS hates going in a buggy too and has done from around 18 months.

I'm not sure if it would help you guys but we got DS a smart trike which he could sit in with his feet up and be pushed? DS loved walking but was happy to sit in his bike as he could steer, ring his bell etc. Picture attached.

That's funny Stace because I just found that in pink and it would be ideal for L but I would have to buy it in the UK and bring it back to Denmark so was wonderiing how heavy it was  ??? She has a trike with parent handle but it doesn't have such a good handle, this is similar to pushing a pushchair isn't it? Also hers has a platform to put her feet that you can take off but she is in the between stage where she doesn't reach the pedals but doesn't want the panel either so those foot rests would be better and also I like the fcat you can strap them into the seat  ;)

It's a fab invention but reasonably heavy. I'm not sure if Amazon or ebay post to Denmark?

The thing I love most, is that the parent handle actually steers the bike too which most don't apparently? It is rather similar to pushing a pushchair and the foot pedals can go up or down and the wheels can be locked off so the pedals won't spin round if DD just wanted to let her legs hang. It also grows with them so the handle comes off, the seat changes etc etc.

We've taken the handle and other parts off and DS uses it around the house too lol.

i am so jealous of you guys - my 3 and 4 1/2 yr old actually fight over who gets to sit in the stroller vs. stand ont he back step (i only just last month stopped using the side by side maclaren double as it was too heavy with 2 preschoolers  ::)).  how lazy are my kids??  alex complains of being tired or uncomfortable after a max of 5 min and sometimes only 2 min of walking  :(

You guys are bumming me out, I am not ready for the stroller era to end. Sam, however, does not seem to realize (yet) that there is an alternative to the stroller.  ;)

we have just gone back to being able to go for a bit of a walk outside with Noah in the stroller. at the age of 2. I decided that I wanted to get some exercise, so now we walk to fun places like the "diggers", the dogs or the park etc. but I try to walk for 20min or so before letting him out for a bit. all in all at least I get a good 45mins of walking in or so.

I have a chariot stroller---and they really are awesome, we will upgrade to the double when the new babe comes.

I figure that as he gets older, he will be more inclined to sit for longer.

I think a lot of them just go through spells--we didn't get a double stroller before DS was born because DD didn't like to sit much, but a few months later, it got hard to go places that involved a lot of walking because she didn't want to walk (unless we're with friends her age and then she runs with them the whole time).  We still go back and forth--when I want to walk fast for exercise, she doesn't want to sit.  But if we're just strolling about and DS is riding in the stroller, of course she wants to ::)

good lord, Lilly's not even walking yet...she is so good in the pram.... we have that exact same smart trike int he pic.  she loves it. push her around the yard for ages.... the steering is not the best.  dh had to do some modifications to get it right.  plus he added stickers, just like his dirtbike so L loves it even more (he can't leave anything with wheels alone.)

i hope L likes the pram for a while yet!
