Post by: tinkerbelle78us on March 12, 2006, 23:24:33 pm
my husband keeps telling me that I shouldn't let our son play in his intellitainer next to me while I blow dry my hair b/c it will affect his hearing.  Is this true?  thanks.

Not sure of the answer there - but I blow dry my hair every day and both kids have been in there with me every day of their lives....both of their hearing is fine as far as I can tell. I'm not standing right next to them while I'm doing it.

I wouldn't worry if I were you.  While in the womb, our los are exposed to noise at least as loud as a hair dryer, and provided it's not held up to close to their ears (which obviously you're not!!! ;) ), it won't harm them. Keep drying your hair with your lo nearby!  Dr. Harvey Karp of The Happiest Baby on the Block says that the noise in the womb is as loud as a vacuum cleaner, and he actually recommends using hairdryers to soothe babies.

You hold it next to your ear and you are going deaf, are you?   ;)  I think your DS will be fine. I dry my hair with my ds in the room all the time. If I were stnding so close that it would affect his hearing, I think I would be more concerned about burning him. And I'm sure you aren't that close.
