waking 45 minutes after bedtime
« on: October 24, 2007, 23:57:06 pm »
Lately my 10 month old Charlie has been waking up 45 minutes after he has gone to bed for the night.  He has become quite active the past week and it seems to be doing so much so fast.  In the past week he has started to talk a lot more, patty cake, pull himself up on everything, crawl on all fours as opposed to dragging his belly, etc.

Could all of these new tricks be causing this?  He has been waking during the night too.  I don't think he's overtired at bedtime (6:45-7:00).

It's not a huge issue when dh is home, but when he's not, I am usually putting big brother Ben to bed.

Anyone else experience this waking shortly after going to bed?

How does he go to sleep initially?  Does he have a paci or anything like that?

Well with us usually waking up 45mins into the night is from overtiredness. How does he sleep during the day? Could you post your routine for us?

He takes his one and only bottle to go to bed.  We've had major feeding issues (Delayed Gastric Emptying and Reflux).

His feedings are scattered because of this, but here's his sleeping routine.

6:00-6:30:  wakes up
9:30:  a.m. nap  (usually 1 hour 20 min.)
1:30-2:00:  p.m. nap (barely an hour- lately doesn't sleep very long)
6:30-7:00:  bedtime

I have been holding him until he's quite drowsy and I'm working towards him sleeping independently, but like I said we've had a lot of issues to deal with.

My thoughts are that he is overtired by bedtime since the afternoon nap is so short. It could also be that he is dependant on you to go to sleep....

You could try shortening the morning nap to 1hr so that the afternoon nap is longer.... & he is not awake for so long before bedtime.

6-6.30 - wakes
9:30-10:30 - morning nap
1.30/2pm - 3/3.30 - afternoon nap
6.30/7pm - bedtime

I do think that 4hrs A time on a less than 1hr nap in the afternoon is too long....

How does he sleep for the rest of the night?
