Grape Question
« on: October 08, 2006, 21:20:02 pm »
I am wanting to put grapes in Grace's safe feeder.  Do I need to peel them first or is the skin ok?  I would like to give them to her frozen and from the fridge.  I wasn't sure if that mattered.

Thanks  :D

I think you should peel them and also maybe cut them in half - my mum's a health visitor in the UK and she tells a terrible story about a baby who choked on a whole grape. Sorry to put a downer on it, but feel I should pass it on.

I think if you peel these, she could get more juice for herself ;D

I used to peel them at this age and then cut into little pieces.  As they get older (Alex is 22 Months) you can get away with cutting them, but I don't think that the skin is really beneficial, I remember the story about the little girl who died, she was 2 years old and swallowed a grape whole and she choked.  Awful, I visit a playgroup who offer grapes, but I told the playleader about it and she now cuts them into quarters.

I always used to peel and cut into quarters.

Now I just cut in half, I would never give him a whole grape, that'd scare me half to death

Thanks everyone.

I will be putting them into a safe feeder so thankfully she won't be able to choke.  I have also heard some scary stories so we will wait quite awhile before giving them to her with out the safe feeder.

Have a wonderful day everyone.
