Confused about ending dreamfeed
« on: February 14, 2006, 02:14:54 am »
I am confused about how to increase intake during the day, in order to elliminate the dreamfeed.
If I BF at 4, then feed solids at 5:30, then BF again at 7...when is there time to cluster feed?  I tried at 6 today and DS would not take any.

I think that cluster feeding works the best with newborns who are truly hungrier and need to nurse more often. With a 6 month old, I wouldn't introduce cluster feeding, there is no point in that, especially if you are feeding him solids. How often do you nurse during the day and does he still wake up at night for a feed? Are you concerned that he takes too little of your milk in general?

If he doesn't wake up at night you may want to slowly eliminate a dreamfeed by moving it earlier each day or every other day by 15 minutes.

Monika is right, slowly move the dreeamfeed forward until you feel brave enough to eliminate it. You could try going cold turkey if think he will manage through the night, does he seem hungry at the DF or do you think its for comfort?

Thank you!  I am not concerned about his milk intake...I was concerned about how I was going to get MORE into him, but I do feel the dreamfeed was more for comfort...his and mine!  I think I will start by moving it up rather than quitting cold turkey!  Keep your fingers crossed...he has been sleeping so well lately!

I did not give up df till LO was 8 months old but had been doing it at 9pm and v little for about 6 weeks. I did noticde that he was not that hungrey in the morning. When I give up he woke and moaned but settled easily without bf. Must say I do miss that cuddle time

good luck
