Title: anyone skip purees altogether?
Post by: Nauvoo on April 12, 2012, 23:50:00 pm
Just wondering?  I have a friend who just didn't even bother with purees with her 3rd child.
DD seems to be uninterested in the spoon thus far, but very interested in what we are eating.  We have tried a few things like banana, egg, and oranges which she took to wonderfully.  Is there an advantage to not skipping purees?  DD isn't even 6 months yet but will be next week.
Obviously this is not BLW method.  I can't remember what I did with DD1 but I didn't follow any plan.

I feel like skipping purees IS BLW!  We totally skipped them with Grace.  Tried to with Austin but he would only eat purees for a long time.  But Grace started with real food at 6m and we never looked back.  There's no clear advantage that I'm aware of but I do find it much easier to prepare meals for them when you don't have to deal with making purees!  It's messy but it's really fun and I think it's great to give them the independence to feed themselves from the start, control what and how much they have, etc.  :D

DS refused point blank to be spoon fed, so we launched right into finger foods.

I think BLW is what you are thinking of!! It's really not as hippy as you think it is.. it's basically skipping purees... and there's a whole lot of us on here who did just that!!

I agree.  No purées here either.

LO grabbed a banana I was eating one day and the rest is history! Sticks of pear, cucumber and strips of toast, bit slowly at first and then just let him try everything.  He loves to eat.  And now he loves to bake!

Same here - not that I didn't try, he just wasn't into it. I think it will depend on the individual child...but I don't see any advantage or disadvantage to either method.

its sort of a 'horses for courses' thing i think! Different things suit different families/babies...
